听力原文:Now listen, and fill in the spaces.

Man: Good morning. Marketing Department. Peter Menzies speaking.

Woman: Hello. Could I speak to John Fitzgerald, please?

Man: I'm afraid he's not in the office at the moment.

Woman: Well, this is Elizabeth Parnell calling. I wanted to talk to John about the meeting next week. You see, I only get back on Tuesday night from a trade fair in the States.

Man: So, would you like me to give him a message?

Woman: Yes, could you ask him if we can postpone Wednesday's meeting? Till after lunch. That would be easier. I was originally going to be at ten a.m.

Man: OK. I'll ask him to change it. I'll get back to you with a time.

Woman: Thanks. And could you also ask him to add another item for discussion at the meeting? I thought we were going to talk about the revised budgets – but I can't see this on the agenda.

Man: OK. I'd better ask him to call you ...

Woman: Yes, please. I'm at Head Office at the moment. Can he phone me here today – I won't be back at my own desk until tomorrow afternoon.

Man: Right, I'll give him the message.

Woman: Thanks.

听力原文:M: Now that you are all here, let me show you around this plant, and if you liste
n closely, you might learn something about glass and crystal.

W: I had nothing about the structure of crystal before I have just learned in our science class. I always thought there was crystal in glass.

M: Well, real crystal is generally a hard substance in which the atoms are arranged in a highly ordered structure much like the framework of a skyscraper.

W: Does that mean in ordinary glass the molecules are not ordered?

M: That's right, but most of the glass made here is actually lead crystal or glass with a high lead content.

W: Lead? Isn' t lead poisonous?

M: What it does is to make a very good quality glass. You will see several samples of glass on the tour. If everyone is ready now, please follow me.

W: I am supposed to hand in a paper in this aspect after the tour.

听力原文:W: Now listen, and mark A, B, or C. Right, let's move on to the targets for 1998

听力原文:W: Now listen, and mark A, B, or C.

Right, let's move on to the targets for 1998 and our medium-term plans. For the AMAT,

we expect to reach sales of 250,000-this is roughly the same figure as last year and it may be a little pessimistic, as we are going to do a large-scale promotion campaign during the year-so perhaps we will achieve something like 300,000. Still I prefer to keep the forecast at 250,000.

Now, we come to the BMAT. Here sales should reach 450,000. This could be a little optimistic as we are not going to push this product in 1998. In any case, the total will probably balance out with the more conservative forecast for the AMAT.

The CMAT, our most recent product, will continue to do well. Sales may go as high as 600,000. However, I have set the target slightly lower at 550,000.

OK, let's turn to our medium-term plans. At the beginning of 1998 we are going to launch our new product-the DMAT-and we are sure sales will take off very quickly. We estimate first year sales at 200,000. The DMAT should initially complement the AMAT and eventually replace it in the nineties. Finally, R & D are working hard on a medium range produce-they hope to have it ready by 1999 so we could launch it in 2000.

Questions 23-30

?You will hear a talk on import regulations.

?For each question (23-30), mark one letter (A, B or C).

?After you have listened once, replay the recording.

For the AMAT, in 1998, the Sales are expected to reach

A.200,000

B.250,000

C.600,000

听力原文:M: Can you spare a moment, dear? I want you to listen to this letter.

W: Go ahead, then.

M: Dear Sir, my wife and I arrived home last night after a holiday arranged by your firm. We stayed at the hotel described in your brochure as a comfortable, medium-sized hotel, with a magnificent view of the sea, offering courteous, old fashioned service arid excellent food, served in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

W: Yes, that's what the brochure said.

M: In fact the hotel is situated at least half a mile from the sea.

W: Through the gates of which motor vehicles were constantly arriving.

M: Yes, that's good. The food was strictly fish and chips. Wine was available, but at expensive prices, and the majority of the staff were foreigners and actually incapable of speaking or understanding English.

W: Yes, that's quite true.

M: In addition to this, we were most unhappy with the arrangements for our journey home. We were instructed to catch the 11. 00 am ship, but this was delayed and we did not get away till 6 o'clock in the evening. Now that our holiday is over, it seems pointless writing this letter, but I should like you to know that we were most disappointed with the hotel and travel arrangements. Yours faithfully, Herbert Wilson.

W: Yes dear, that's a very good letter.

(20)

A.A letter of invitation.

B.A letter of recommendation.

C.A letter of complaint,

D.An application letter.

听力原文:W: Shall I phone and tell your secretary you're not coming today?

M: Yes, please, dear. Tell her I've got a cold and have a headache, but hope to be back in a day or two. You'd better say I'm staying in bed.

W: But you are not in bed. Do you want me to tell a lie?

M: Oh, it's only a little one, dear. I'm not making a false excuse. I really have a bad headache.

W: Then put the cigarette out. It's very foolish of you to smoke when you've got a cold.

M: Very well, dear. You're quite right.

W: You never listen to me.

M: Don't I?

W: Look, There's some boiling water in the kitchen. Here you are. Do as I tell you now. I've put something in the water. That'll do you a lot of good. Wrap this cloth around your neck and put your nose over the water. That's right. Breathe in deeply.

M: It smells nice.

W: Now, another deep breath. Now breathe out. Slowly! Now, breathe in again. Go on doing that for five minutes. I will go and make that phone call to the office.
