听力原文: I'm Mr. Britain, the head librarian, and today I'd like to intro duce you to the facilities in our university library and show you how to use them. The first room on our tour is the reference room, where you'll find all sorts of reference materials: dictionaries, bibliographies, literature guides, even telephone books. You may use these books only in the reference room itself. The next room is the periodicals room, where you'll find various newspapers, magazines and academic journals. The current issues are usually directly available to you on the shelves. And you can get an older issue by filling out a slip for the librarian. These items must also be used in this room. The next room contains the card catalogs. All the library's books are listed here by title, by author and by topic. When you are looking for a book you must write the book's call number, title and author on these slips and present them with your library card at the desk. The books themselves are kept in the stacks, which are open only to graduate students, faculty members and library staff. Our library has over a million volumes in these stacks which cover five floors. If you have any further questions about using the library, I'd be glad to help you after the tour. Thank you for your attention.

I felt that it was perfect chance to up-sell. I checked the booked room with the guest, “Thank you very much for your reliance on our hotel, Mr. Gao. It’s my pleasure to serve you. This time, you have ordered a standard large-bed non-smoking for three nights, right?” “Yes.”
”I suggest you are on a business, right? I’d like to suggest you try our executive floor. It’s newly decorated, and you will enjoy the top-level service. And there are many preferential treatments.”
“Really? Then what preferential treatments can I have if I take that?”
“Mr. Gao, you need to use the internet to deal with you business, right? The Internet service is not free, but you may have one-hour free Internet use each day if you take the ECF. In addition, 80 yuan’s free laundry service, 6 tins of free soft drinks, and so on. And for all of these, you will only need to pay another 20 yuan.”
Here I stopped to observe the reaction of the guest. He kept silence for a while, looking hesitated. Then I said. “Maybe your concern is not how much you will pay, but rather whether the room is worth the price. Would you like to make your decision after having a look at the show room?”
The guest felt very hard to turn down my warm-hearted offer, so he decided to take an executive room for three nights.

1.The Golden Rules of Negotiating
The art of negotiating is a difficult skill for most of us, even good salespeople. Here are three golden rules for you to follow: Always Start the Negotiations.
You must initiate the process. This is because whoever controls the start of the negotiations tends to control where they end. If you let the other party start negotiations, you will be constantly giving up control, often without even realizing it. For instance, when you ask someone what his project budget is, you are allowing him to start the negotiations. You will then spend your time chasing his number rather than finding the best solution. So, never let the other party control the negotiations.
2.Always Negotiate in Writing.
The purpose of negotiations is to arrive at a formal written agreement, not tell a story or spend time talking. From the first moment you begin a proposal, you should create a document and take it to the client. It will include all the points of agreement and become real to the prospective customer. Negotiating first and then having to create a document adds unnecessary time to a transaction. But if you build your written agreement as you negotiate, you are prepared to ask for a signature the moment the decision to buy is made.
3.Always Stay Cool.
The negotiation table can be loaded with agendas, egos and emotions. Great negotiators know how to stay cool, providing leadership and solutions, while the rest of the room becomes insanely invested in personal agendas and useless emotions. Crying, getting angry and blowing off steam may make you feel good, but such behavior will not benefit you while negotiating. When the rest of the room gets emotional, stay cool and use logic to negotiate and close.
1.If you let the other party start negotiations, you will be completely grasp the control, often without even realizing it.()
2.So, never let both parties control the negotiations.()
3.Negotiating first and then having to create a document doesn’t need necessary time to a transaction.()
4.Great negotiators know how to stay cool, providing leadership and solutions, while the rest of the room becomes wild or helpless during the negotiation.()
5.When the rest of the room gets out of control, stay cool and use logic to negotiate and close.()

M: Oh, hi, Cathy. Sure. What's up?
W: Well, I've been meaning to talk to you about the situation in the office.
M: I'm not in there very often. It's so noisy that I can't work.
W: That's exactly what I'm getting at. We're supposed to be able to do our preparation and marking in that office, but have you noticed? Jack constantly has students coming in to get help with his course. A lot of people are going in and out.
M: Has anybody spoken to him about it?
W: No, not yet, but someone's going to have to.
M: We can't really ask him to stop having students come in for help, can we?
W: No, of course not. But I'm not able to do my work and neither are you. I imagine it's the same for the others in the office.
M: Hmmm, could we ask for a kind of meeting room? When TA's have to talk with a student, they could go to the meeting room and not use the office. You know, there's room down the hall, rather a small room, that we could ask to use. It's only for storing supplies.
W: You mean that little storage room? Oh, that would be too small.
M: Are you sure? With the cabinets taken out, it might be bigger than it looks.
W: Come to think of it, you may be on to something. I'd like to have a look at that room. Can we go there now?
M: Sure, Let's go.
(23)
A.There aren't enough cabinets.
B.There is too much noise.
C.Office supplies are taking up space.
