听力原文: Around the year 1000 A. D., some people from northwest India began to travel westwards. Nobody knows why. After leaving their homes, they did not settle down again, but spent their lives moving from one place to another. Their later generations are called the Romany people, or Gypsies. There're Gypsies all over the world, and many of them are still traveling with no fix homes, There are about 8 million of them, including 3 million in eastern Europe. Gypsies sometimes have a hard time in the countries where they travel, because they are different. People may be afraid of them, look down on them, or think that they are criminals. The Nazis treated the Gypsies cruelly, like the Jews, and nobody knows how many of them died in Hitler's death camps.

Gypsies have their own language, Romany. They like music and dancing. And they often work in fairs and traveling shows. Traveling is very important to them, and many Gypsies are unhappy if they have to stay in one place. Because of this, it is difficult for Gypsy children to go to school. In sonic places, the education authorities tried to arrange special traveling schools for Gypsy children, so that they can get the same education as other children.

听力原文: Christmas is the time when Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus. Every year in December we celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ.. That is why we call this time 'Christmas' -- we celebrate the 'Mass', or church service, for Christ.

Christmas is a truly magical season, bringing families and friends together to share the much loved customs and traditions which have been around for centuries. Most people are on holiday in England and stay at home with their family on Christmas day. Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December in England, with a Christmas dinner for the whole family. During the weeks before Christmas Day, we send cards, watch nativity plays and go to carol services. We also decorate our homes and churches with green leaves, Christmas trees, paper decorations and colourful electric lights.

Christmas Customs and traditions in England, are gradually being lost. Christmas has also become commercialised and the old meaning of Christmas is too often forgotten.

Nowadays, Christmas is celebrated all over the world in many countries, including China, where it is becoming more and more popular.

(30)

A.31st December.

B.25th December.

C.1st January.

D.25th November.

听力原文: In the past two years, millions of Americans have suddenly embraced the bicycle as if it were a startling new invention. Annual bike sales doubled between 1960 and 1970, and there are nearly 70 million bikes in the United States today. That's more than two for every three automobiles.

Of course, the bike has been around for more than 150 years, and this isn't America's first bicycle boom. A wave of bike enthusiasm swept the land in the late 1800s and bicycle production hit two million units in 1897. Then with the coming of the auto, bicycling declined, and for decades remained popular only with children and a few adult faddists.

Now, national preoccupation with air pollution and physical fitness has brought the bike back to the forefront—particularly with adults. More than eight million bikes were sold in the United States last year and a third of them went to adults. The year before, only 15 percent of new bike sales were for adults.

(30)

A.The use of bikes is a new invention in the U.S.

B.Annual bike sales doubled in the 60s in the U.S.

C.The producers made 70 million bikes every year.

D.The number of bikes is two times that of cars in the U.S.
