Experts who worked in the various institutions would be the teachers. About 100 institutions in Philadelphia -- public, private, and commercial -- helped the program.

The experiment in institutions in education, known as the Parkway Program, began in February 1969. John Bremer, an Englishman and an innovator in the field of education, planned the program and became its director.

The Program has grown in size from 142 to 500 high school students and is so popular that thousands of applicants are denied places each year. The program gives a freedom to high school education never known before. Besides basic courses required for a diploma -- languages, history, science -- students may choose from more than one hundred other courses. Any subject will be offered if an instructor can be found. Every group of 15 boys and girls belongs to a "tutorial group", led by a teacher and one assistant. Students in the Program say that school is no longer a place but an interesting activity.

听力原文: The term "satellite city" is used to describe the relationship between a large city and neighboring smaller cities and towns that are economically dependent upon it. Satellite cities may be collection and distribution points in the commercial linkages of a trading metropolis, or they may be manufacturing or mining centres existing with one-industry economies as the creatures of some nearby centre. This latter form. is what is generally meant when one uses the term "satellite city". Taken in this sense, nineteenth century Chicopee and Lowell, Massachusetts, were satellites of Boston. His grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a Wall Street financier who was elected to the Senate of the United States from Connecticut in 1952. Although his father began his career in the oil industry, he eventually served as a congressman.

At the age of two, Bush moved with his parents from Connecticut to Odessa, Texas, where his father embarked on a career in the petroleum business. After a year in Texas, the family moved to California for business reasons. A year later, the family moved back to Texas and settled in Midland, a town in western Texas legated about 500 km (300 mi) from Fort Worth. Bush lived in Midland from 1950 to 1959. He had three brothers Jeb, Neil, and Marvin, and a sister, Dorothy. In 1959, again for business reasons, the family moved to Houston, Texas. In 1961 Bush left Texas and went to Andover, Massachusetts, to attend Phillips Academy, a boarding school that his father had also attended.

At Phillips, Bush played basketball, baseball, and football. He was best known for being heed cheerleader. In 1964 he enrolled at Yale University in Connecticut; his father and grandfather had also attended Yale. That same year, Bush campaigned for his father in his unsuccessful bid to win a U.S. Senate seat from Texas.

At Yale, Bush was considered an average student, but he was popular with his classmates. During Bush's time at Yale, college students all over the country began to hold protests about a variety of issues, including protests against U.S. involvement in rite Vietnam War (1959-1975). Bush was uncomfortable with the growth of the student protest movement, and he generally refrained from participating in campus polities. In 1968 he campaigned on behalf of his father, who was running for reelection for a seat in the House of Representatives that he had won in 1966.
