Knowing Your Real Personality from Sleeping Positions

Everyone has got two personalities--the one that is shown to the world and the other that is secret and real. You don&39;t show your secret personality when you&39;re awake because you. can control yourself, but when you&39;re asleep, your sleeping position shows the real you. In a normal night, of

course, you often change your sleeping positions. The important position that best shows your se- cret personality is the one that you go to sleep.

If you go to sleep on your back, you&39;re a very open person. You normally trust people and you are easily influenced by new ideas. You don&39;t like to make people unhappy, so you never ex- press your real feelings. You&39;re quite shy and you aren&39;t very confident.

If you sleep on your stomach, you are a person who likes to keep secrets. You worry a lot and you&39;re always easily becoming sad. You never want to change your ideas, but you are satisfied with your life the way it is. You usually live for today not for tomorrow.

If you sleep on curled up, you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and often protect yourself from being hurt, so you are very defensive. You&39;re shy and you don&39;t usually like meeting people. You like to be on your own.

If you sleep on your side, you have usually got a well-balanced personality. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You&39;re usually careful. You have a confident personality. You sometimes feel worried, but you don&39;t often get unhappy. You always say what you think, even if it makes people angry.

Travel Across Africa

For six hours we shot through the barren (荒芜的) landscape of the Karoo desert in South Africa. Just rocks and sand and baking sun. Knowing our journey was ending, Daniel and 1 just wanted to remember all we had seen and done. He used a camera. I used words. I had already finished three notebooks and was into the fourth, a beautiful leather notebook I&39;d bought in a market in Mozambique.<br>

Southern Africa was full of stories and visions. We were almost drunk on sensations. The roaring of the water at Victoria Falls, the impossible silence of the Okavango Delta in Botswana.<br>

And then the other things: dogs in the streets, whole families in Soweto living in one room, a kilometer from clean water.<br>

As we drove towards the setting sun, a quietness fell over us. The road was empty--we hadn&39;t seen another car for hours. And as I drove, something caught my eye, something moving close enough to touch them, to smell their hot breath. I didn&39;t know how long they had been there next to us.<br>

I shouted to Dan: "Look! but he was in a deep sleep, his camera lying useless by his feet."<br>

They raced the car for a few seconds, then disappeared far behind us, a memory of heroic forms in the red landscape.<br>

When Daniel woke up an hour later I told him what had happened.<br>

"Wild horses? "he said. "Why didn&39;t you wake me up, Sophia?"<br>

"I tried. But they were gone after a few seconds."<br>

"Are you sure you didn&39;t dream it?"<br>

"You were the one who was sleeping! "<br>

"Typical," he said. "The best photos are the ones we never take."<br>

We checked into a dusty hotel and slept the sleep of the dead.

Daniel and Sophia drove slowly through the busy desert. 查看材料

Musical Chairs

Do you know how to play a game called Musical Chairs" ? It is easy to play and most people enjoy it. All you need are some chairs, some people and some way of making music. You may use a piano or any other musical instrument, if someone can play it. You may use a tape recorder. You can even use a radio.

Put the chairs in a row. The chairs may be put in twos, back to back. A better way is to have the chairs in one row with each chair facing in the opposite direction to the chair next to it.

The game is easy. When the music starts ,the players walk round the chairs. Everyone goes in the same direction, of course, they should walk in time to the music. If the music is fast they should walk quickly. If the music is slow, they should walk slowly.

The person playing music cannot see the people in the game. When the music stops, the play- ers try to sit on the chairs. If a person cannot find a chair to sit on, he drops out. Then, before the music starts again, one chair must be taken away. When the music stops again, one more player will be out.

At last, there will be two players and one chair. The one who sits on the chair when the music stops is the winner.

If ten people are playing musical chairs, you must begin with 查看材料

More Than a Ride to School

The National Education Association claims "The school bus is a mirror Of the community."

They further add that, unfortunately, what appears on the exterior(外部)does not always reflect the reality of a chosen community. They are right, and sometimes it reflects more! Just ask Liesl Denson. Riding the school bus has been more than a ride to school for Liesl.

Bruce Hardy, school bus driver for Althouse Bus Company has been Liesl"s bus driver since kindergarten. Last year when Liesl"s family moved to Parkesburg, knowing her bus went by her new residence, she requested to ride the same bus.

This year Liesl is a senior and will enjoy her last year tiding the bus. She says, "It"s been a great tide so far! My bus driver is so cool and has always been a good friend and a good listener.

Sometimes when you"re a child, adults do not think that what you have to say is important. Mr.

Hardy always listens to what you have to say and makes you feel important." Her friends Ashley Batista and Amanda Wolfc agree.

Brace Hardy has been making Octorara students feel special since 1975. This year he will celebrate 30 years working for Althouse Bus Transportation. Company President Larry Althouse acknowledges Bruce Hardy"s outstanding record. "You do not come by employees like Bruce these days: he has never missed a day of work and has a perfect driving record. Recognized in 2000 by the Pennsylvania School Bus Association for driving 350,000 accident free miles, Hardy"s reputation is made further evident through the relationships he has made with the students that ride

his bus. "

Althouse further added. "Althouse Bus Transportation was established 70 years ago and has been providing quality transportation ever since my grandfather started the business with one bus.

Althouse Bus Transportation is delighted to have the opportunity to bring distinctive and safe service to our local school and community and looks forward to continuing to provide quality service for many more years to come."

Three generations of business is not all the company has enjoyed. Thanks to divers like Bruce Hardy, they have been building relationships through generations. Liesl"s mother Carol also enjoys fond memories of riding Bruce Hardy"s bus to the Octorara School District.

根据下面短文内容,回答题。

Hints for Reading Practice

(1) Most of us can find 15 minutes or half an hour each day for some regular activity. For example, one famous surgeon always spent 15 minutes reading something before he went to sleep each day. Whether he went to bed at 10 p.m. or 2:30 a.m. made no difference.

(2) "Speed Reading" courses teach students how to read more quickly. In such courses, teachers often ask students to find out how many words a minute he is reading. You can do this too:look at your watch every 5 or 10 minutes and write down the page number you have reached.

(3)Obviously, you should not increase your reading speed if you do not understand what you are reading. If you find something you don&39;t understand in the book, or you cannot remember clearly the details of what is said, why not read the chapter again?

(4)Take four or five pages of an interesting book you happen to be reading now. Read these pages as fast as you can. Don&39;t worry about whether you understand or not. If you keep doing this "lightning speed" reading for a period of time, you will usually find that your normal speed has increased.

(5) Most paragraphs in an article have a topic sentence that expresses the central idea. The opening paragraph often suggests the general direction and content of the article, while paragraphs that follow expand or support the first. The closing paragraph often gives a summary of the most important points of the article.
