听力原文:W: I’m reading an essay by Thornton Wilder for my theater course, so I am eager t
o see how he applies his theories about drama to his own plays. Last night, I saw the student production of Our Town. It's too ex citing. To Wilder, a wonderful stage display is neither necessary nor suitable in a dramatic presentation. There certainly wasn't any impressive performance in Our Town. In fact, in the play there are hardly any objects or pieces of furniture are used at all. While I walked into the theater, I thought I had gone on the wrong night, since there was nothing but a bare stage, not even a curtain. A simple setting like that is exactly what Wilder insists upon. At the start of the play, the stage manager who was also the narrator, put a table and chair on either side of the stage and said they represented the houses of two families. All the other objects used in the play were imaginary.

W: I think I'd really enjoy seeing Our Town.

M: You would, especially since you've read that essay. There will be another production of it tonight and one more on Sunday afternoon. I hope you can appreciate it.

What is the woman reading for her theater course?

A.The play Our Town.

B.An essay by Thornton Wilder.

C.A critical review of Our Town.

D.A short story about New Hampshire.

An aunt of mine has often said, "Youth is wasted on the young. "This statement has aroused
my interest for years. People usually smile when she says it, and I have always smiled, too. But I think I' m just now beginning to understand the meaning of the saying. Quite recently I thought how close in meaning it is to a statement Thornton Wolder made in his play Our Town. Toward the end of the play, Emily, one of the main characters in the play, says, "I didn't realize. So all that was going on and we never noticed!... Do any human beings ever realize while they live it -- every ,every minute?" Older people, looking back, can appreciate youth, its real meaning and importance, but young people, while they are in the middle of their youth, never fully realize what they have. An older person recognizes his increasing age by making comparisons to his youth. "I'm not as young as I was. Better slow down. "he says to himself. The importance of youth, the energy and excitement of it, is realized only after it is gone. Thus, it seems to me my aunt is right. Youth is wasted on the young. Babies should be old and gray-haired when they' re born. Only after many years should they be permitted to enjoy their youth.

By saying "The youth is wasted on the youth" , the writer means that ______.

A.most older people regret not being young now

B.people didn't do anything important when they were young

C.when the importance of youth is realized, everything is gone

D.young people seem to know little about the value of the youth

Hometown Businessman By Grace Morrison April 5 - Unlike other entrepreneurs who expand t
heir operations into different parts of the country, Miles Repair Shop owner Floyd Peterson is expanding right here in Montgomery. With two repair shops already established in the city and a third to open next month in Middleton City, Miles Repair Shop has become well known in the community. "Im here whenever I need my car to be fixed." Hair Salon owner, Emily Gordon says."Floyd runs a friendly shop. He makes everyone feel like a family." This is exactly the kind of compliment that Peterson loves to hear. Although he studied at Technical schools in Florida, Peterson attributes his success to his grandfather, Miles Peterson, for whom his stores are named. "He was the first one to teach me how to repair vehicles." "He said that my workplace would be a great place to meet our neighbors and I could find some ways to serve our communities." Peterson recalls. Peterson makes a point of working at both of his grandfathers current locations, personally overseeing the operations. However, he can appreciate that his growing business will make him delegate some responsibilities. So, next month, he will bring on long-time friend Ron Harris to his newest store. His new repair shop will purchase many parts and supplies from local auto parts store. He says he considered opening his own auto parts store, but ultimately he decided against it. "Shifting into other areas will compromise the quality of our services, and I wont let that happen."

What is the purpose of the article?

A.To describe an entrepreneur"s business strategy

B.To summarize the performance of a new business

C.To discuss a planned merger between businesses

D.To provide information about a technical school
