听力原文: Are electric cars the way of the future?Automobile manufactures are under pressure to develop cars that do not pollute. One powerful motive is a California law requiring that by the year 2020 ten percent of new car sells in the state be so called zero-emission vehicles. These cars must put no pollutants whatsoever into the at-mosphere.

California is a huge market for the automobile companies,so they are working hard to meet these standards. So far the electric car seems to be the best alternative. So the big advantage of electric cars is that they don't pollute. However they will be in competition with gas-powered cars and that's where the weaknesses come out.The big problem is that the batteries that power electric cars weigh a lot relative to the amount of power they deliver. For instance,in one prototype electric car,the batteries weighed 400 kilograms. And they provide enough energy to go 250 kilometers before recharging, which takes eight hours.Compare that to a moderately fuel-efficient conventional car,it can go 600 to 700 kilometers on a tank of gas and refilling takes just minutes. If there are other drains on an electric car's batteries besides the motor,headlights,air-conditioning or a heater, its already limited range will be significantly reduced. So automobile engineers are trying to make more powerful batteries that would increase the cars'range and make them more attractive to buyers.

Why does the electric car seem to be the best alternative so far?

A.It is comfortable.

B.It is best made.

C.It causes no pollution.

D.It makes less noise.

听力原文:Before a new plane goes into service, every part of it is tested again and again.

听力原文: Before a new plane goes into service, every part of it is tested again and again. But there are two tests that are more important than all the others. In the first test, a modern airliner must fly at very high altitudes. Air must be pushed into the airliner so that the passengers can breathe. The metal structure of the plane has to be very strong for this reason. When the airliner is filled with air, the air presses against the skin of the plane inside. The pressure on a small window, for instance, is like a huge, giant foot that is trying to get out. If a small part of the plane were to crack, the plane would explode in the sky. It is lowered into a huge tank of water to test the structrue of the plane. Then it is filled with air. The pressure inside the plane is greater than it ever will be when it is in the air. Finally, there is an explosion. Engineers can discover which part of the plane has cracked.

In the second test, the test pilot must find out exactly what happens when all the engines are shut off at once. He takes the plane up very high. Then he shuts the engines off, the plane begins to fall like a stone. It is the pilot's job to find out how he can control the plane again. These two tests are examples of. how planes are made safe before they ever carry passengers.

What's the main topic of this passage?

A.It's about the tests of a new airliner before its flying.

B.It's about how to protect a new airliner.

C.It's about how to train a new pilot.

D.It's about what the airliner engineers should do.

听力原文:Seems like there is good news for Americans who like to tip one bacchic at happy
hour or relax with a glass of wine after work. A recent study by two economists shows drinkers earn more than teetotalers. In fact the data that published in a journal of labor research shows drinkers earn 10%-14% more than people who avoid alcohol altogether. The researchers say this disparity in pay might be explained by the fact drinkers have wider social networks. They argue this enables drinkers to get better jobs and business opportunities, truly increase social capital. But the study has its critics, they point out the researchers founded their work with money from libertarian think tank the Reason Foundation. That group has been fighting in- creased regulation and taxation of alcohol around the country. The authors of the study do point out social drinking has its limits. Having more than 21 servings of alcohol a week they say actually reduces earning potential. One could say all things in moderation.

Why do drinkers earn more than teetotalers according to this passage?

A.Because drinkers have better health.

B.Because drinkers receive more money from social warefare.

C.Because drinkers have wider social networks.

D.Because drinkers are more hard-working.

听力原文:W: Is there anything else we ought to discuss?

M: We haven't discussed heating yet. Do you like central heating?

W: Yes, but isn't it rather expensive? First costs, I mean--the furnace, and the boiler, all the pipes and radiators?

M: That depends on the system. An automatically controlled oil-burning system is rather expensive.

W: Electric fires are no cheaper. We have them in the bedrooms, and the electricity bills are always high at the end of the winter.

M: What about open fires?

W: I like to see a fire. But coal fires do make a lot of work and a lot of dust, too.

M: You may have a furnace in the kitchen, and a storage tank upstairs. A furnace that bums coke is much cheaper than one that bums oil. A good one would give you all the hot water you need for the kitchen and for baths, and enough for two radiators in the living room.

W: Oh, I know what you mean. They have to be filled twice a day, don't they?

M: Yes, and you have to clear out the ashes once a day.

W: How much does coke cost?

M: They bum three or four tons a year. I'm not sure how much coke costs now--about £ 20 a ton, perhaps.

W: That's t £11.25 or more a week--for all the hot water, and for heating the living room in winter. That's cheaper than any other system I know.

M: And very little work, too.

W: Great, let's do it.

(20)

A.Electricity bills.

B.The cost of living.

C.The heating system.

D.Types of energy.

听力原文: For more than two hundred years people have been using trains. There are trains to carry people, trains to carry animals. There are fast trains, slow trains, trains that go under the ground, trains that go through mountains. In busy cities, trains have been put under the ground. The subway trains run on tracks through huge tunnels under the noise and traffic of the city. The monorail is another kind of train used in busy places. The train hangs from a rail high above the streets and it carries people quickly in and out of the city. Railroad tunnels which are miles long have been built through mountains. Do you think these tunnels are ready to build? They are not. Workers spend many years on the job. Is it possible for a train to travel over water? Yes, it is. Great bridges have been built just for trains. And railroad tunnels have been built under the water. Some trains travel great distances. You can travel for 2,461 miles on Australia's trains which go across the continent or you can ride 6,000 miles across Russia. Today's trains have nice little bedrooms and dining rooms for people who travel long distances. Years ago trains were used to carry important people. These trains had beautiful bedrooms, bathrooms, dining roans, and sitting rooms. They were like Hale palaces really fit for a king. You have probably seen freight trains. There are many kinds. There are trains to carry logs, refrigerator trains to carry food, tank trains to carry fuel, even trains to carry cars. Some trains carry trucks and take them to other places. Then the trucks can travel on the roads. Trains have long been useful to men and women and to children. Many children have model trains. With the model trains they can build their own railroads and enjoy the wonderful world of trains.

(23)

A.More than three hundred years.

B.More than one hundred years.

C.More than four hundred years.

D.More than two hundred years.
