听力原文:M: I'm Ellan and I work for the Student Union. Can I ask you a few questions abou
t the university facilities?

W: Sure. What would you like to know?

M: What do you think about the lecture rooms here?

W: Not so good, I'm afraid. They are too small for one thing. Sometimes we can hardly find a seat.

M: Ok, thank you. This is definitely a problem. How do you feel about the car parking facilities? Are they adequate?

W: You must be joking. I can never find a car parking space when I need one, and when I finally do, it's very long walk to the university's teaching building.

M: I'm really sorry for that. What about the Computer Center then?

W: I think it's first class. The software base contains a large selection of learning programs, language games and word-processing facilities.

M: Is the service there good?

W: Yes. There are qualified staff who can offer help to us while we work.

M: Oh, good. Well, what do you think of the library facilities?

W: I'm sorry to have to say, but I think the room has poor lighting and the opening time is inconvenient although it is well-stocked.

M: Thank you. Now let's go to the photocopying facilities.

W: I think it's too expensive for photocopying and there are not enough machines. Sometimes we have to stand in a line.

M: Thank you very much. We will try to get these problems solved as soon as we can.

B.He is doing a search.

The most frightening words in the English language are "our computer is down". You hear it
more and more when you are on business. The other day I was at the airport waiting for a ticket to Washington and the girl in the ticket office said, "I' m sorry, I can’t sell you a ticket. Our computer is down."

"If your computer is down, just write me out a ticket."

"I can't write you out a ticket. The computer is the only one allowed to do so."

I looked down the counter and every passenger was just standing there drinking coffee and staring at the black screen. Then I asked her, "What do all the people do?"

"We give the computer the information about your trip, and then it tells us whether you can fly with us or not."

"So when it goes down, you go down with it."

"That’s what happens, sir."

"How long will the computer be down?" I wanted to know.

"I have no idea. Sometimes it's down for ten minutes, sometimes for two hours. There is no way we can find out without asking the computer, and since it’s down it won’t answer us."

After the girl told me they had no backup computer, I said, "Let's forget the computer. What about your planes? They're still flying, aren't they?"

"I couldn't tell without asking the computer."

"Maybe I could just go to the gate and ask the pilot if he’s flying to Washington." I suggested.

"I wouldn’t know what gate to send you to. Even if the pilot was going to ' Washington', he couldn’t take you if you didn’t have a ticket."

"Is there any other airline flying to Washington within the next few hours.'?"

"I wouldn't know," she said, pointing at the dark screen. "Only 'IT' knows. 'it' can't tell me."

By this time there were quite a few people standing in lines. The word soon spread to other travelers that the computer was down. Some people went white, some people started to cry and still others kicked their luggage(行李).

The best headline for the article is ______.

A.When the Computer Is Down

B.The Most Frightening Words

C.The Computer of the Airport

D.Asking the Computer

听力原文:M: It's so hard for me to learn English. Why is it so easy for you?

W: I didn't know you were having problems. Maybe it's easier for me because I already speak two languages. But also, I really work at it.

M: Well, I always do my homework and go to classes. What else do you think would help?

W: Well, you might try reading newspapers. And I always talk to Americans when I get a chance, though sometimes it's hard.

M: But, how do you meet Americans? I only know other foreign students.

W: How about sitting next to an American at lunch, or have you ever thought of asking someone over to your house for dinner?

M: Those are good ideas. But I'm a little shy to speak English.

W: You won't learn if you don't try and speak. If I were you, I'd talk to your English teacher. He might have some good ideas.

Why is it easier for the woman to learn English?

A.She often talks to English people.

B.She speaks two languages already.

C.She always does her homework right after class.

第9题

Most of you would probably say that what makes you truly happy is your family and the love
you share in your relationships, and I couldn't agree more. But money comes into play in those relationships.

When I talk about money this way to a group, there is always someone who comes up to me and says, " Suze, you are so wrong. Money isn't the key to life—this is!" At which point their wallet flies open and they show me a photo of their family.

That's when things get interesting, because I start asking them questions: Did you take that photo with your own camera? It looks like a beautiful beach, was the photo taken on a family vacation? Do you hope to help those beautiful boys and girls go to college?

As their answers are "yes" , I ask them how they provide all of that for their family. That's when they understand that I had it right.

I totally agree that family and friends are of great importance to our well being; without meaningful relationships, there's no chance of ever being truly happy. That's why, every Saturday night, I end my CNBC show with the following words:" People first. Then money. Then things. "

How we deal with the money we have also plays into our happiness. Over the past few decades (十年), the percentage of Americans who say they're happy hasn't changed much, while at the same time the average income has doubled. So we have more money, but we're not much happier on average.

A paradox(悖论) ? Far from it. My sense is that while we're making more money, we aren't making more of the money we make. We have to pay for a lot of things, and we have to worry a-bout saving for retirement (退休) in a way that our parents and grandparents never did. And as man-y of you know, it's really hard to increase your happiness when you've got a lot of money worries.

Do you agree, or am I way off base? I'd love to know what do you think about the money/ happiness connection.

Why do people often show the author their family photos?

A.They hope to show money is very important.

B.They want to prove they can afford a holiday.

C.They think a good family makes them truly happy.

D.They believe a happy person considers people first.
