While listening, answer each question by choosing A, B, C or D. After listening, you will have 10 seconds to check your answer to each question. You will hear each piece ONLY ONCE.

Question 11~13:

M: Excuse me. Have you been waiting long?

W: Yes, about ten minutes.

M: Did you notice whether the No. 7 bus has passed by?

W: Not while I've been standing here.

M: Good. Hot today, isn't it?

W: Yes, it is. I wish that it would rain and cool off.

M: Me too. This is unusual for March. I don't remember it ever being so hot and dry in March before.

W: You're from Florida then.

M: Not really. I was born in New York, but I've lived here for ten years now.

W: My mother and I have just moved here from Indiana.

M: Pretty cold in Indiana, isn't it?

W: Yes. That's why we moved. But we didn't know that it would be so hot here. We should have gone to California. Do you think that we've missed the bus?

M: No, it's. always a little late.

W: It's twenty to one, but my watch is a little faster.

M: Take it easy. It never comes exactly every half hour like it should be.

Questions 14~17:

M: Hi, Sally.

W: Hello, Tom. How are you?

M: I'm fine. Where are you going?

W: Oh, I'm on my way home from work.

M: I didn't know you had a job.

W: Yeah, I work part-time at a supermarket.

M: What do you do there?

W: I work in the produce section, Trimming and wrapping fresh fruit and vegetables. I also stock shelves. Sometimes when it really gets busy, I work at the check-out counter. Have you got a job, Tom?

M: Yeah, I do yard work for people. You know, cutting grass, raking leaves, pulling weeds, things like that.

W: I'd like doing that. It must be nice to work outdoors.

M: Sometimes it is. Except when it rains or snows or gets too hot or too cold or…

W: Ha-ha, I think every job has its shortcomings. There are times when I get pretty tired of carrying things around at my job. But a job's a job. Gotta earn money for school.

M: Me, too. Tuition is very high, isn't it? Well, I must go now. I have to plant some trees for my neighbors this afternoon.

W: Well, don' t work too hard. Holding down a job, going to class, studying. Sometimes it can become too much for one person. Take it easy.

M: You, too. It was great seeing you. Sally!

Questions 18~21 :

M: Good morning, can I help you?

W: How much does this microwave oven cost?

M: $280.

W: Can you give a discount for it?

M: Sorry, I can't. The price is fixed.

W: Come on. Cut down the price just a little bit. I can buy it in another store, but I choose to buy it here as your store is nearer to my place.

M: Well, because I have to meet a quota in order to get my commission. OK. I'll take off, let say, fifty dollars. How does that sound?

W: Oh, no. I was thinking maybe more in three digits. Something like one hundred?

M: Please. That' s too much. Seventy-five, no more no less.

W: Give it two zeros like a hundred. I feel luckier with zeros.

M: Alright, eighty is the bottom line, we can't make any profit if the price is lower than $200.

W: OK, I'll take it. Be sure to have it securely packaged.

Questions 22~25:

Younger people and older people do not always agree with each other. They sometimes have different ideas about life, work and play. But in one special program in New York State, adults and teenagers live together in peace. Each summer, 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. The aim is not only to keep busy but to find meaning and enjoyment in work. Some teenagers work in the woods or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make furniture and to build houses. The adults teach them these skills.

There are several free hours every day. And people are free on weekends, too. During the free hours some teenagers learn photography or painting. Others sit around talking or singing. Each teenager has his own way to spend the free time.

It is necessary to make rules when people live together. In this program the teenagers and the adults make the rules together. When someone breaks the rule, the group will discuss the problem. They will ask "Why did it happen?", "What should we do about it?"

After the program, one of the teenagers told us that, "You stop thinking only about yourself. You begin to think about the whole group. That's what I've learnt from this program. "

Questions 11~13 are based on the following dialogue between two passengers.

What kind of weather is normal for March?

[A] Cold.

[B] Very hot.

[C] Cooler than that day.

[D] Drier than that day.

听力原文:W: Is there such a thing as a typical shoplifter?

M: Uh, not really... But there are certain types most shoplifters fall into. Three types, I would say.

W: Tell me more about these three types.

M: Well... uh... people in the first type are what I call "the sudden impulse type". Doctors and psychologists call such people kleptomaniacs. They see something and just can't ... uh... help stealing it. The strange thing about this first type is that the people in it are often well off and could easily afford to buy the thing. Sometimes they don't even need it... and often they're emotionally disturbed in some way.., middle-aged women, for example, whose husbands have left them, or perhaps older men whose wives have recently died.

W: What about the second type?

M: Well, those are people who are really... "little thieves" They work alone, and know exactly what they want before they go into the store. These days a lot of them, but by no means all, are teenagers who steal things they can't afford. Leather jackets, watches, expensive cosmetics, things like that.

W: And the third type.'? What kind of people do you find in the third type?

M: Ah, yes, they're what I call "the experts".

W: Why?

M: Well, first of all, because they're highly organized. And secondly because they do it for a living. They usually operate in groups of three or sometimes four, and they're extremely difficult to catch.

W: Can they make a lot of money that way?

M: Oh, yes. They're very well off, believe me... much better off than a store detective..., or even a journalist!

How many kinds of shoplifters are mentioned in the dialogue?

B.3

C.4

D.5
