听力原文:M: Erm...you left an informal report with Sergeant Dawkins. There's just a couple

of things I'd like to check on. Could you describe the girl to me in a bit more detail, please?

W: Yes. She was darkish. I should think she was between twenty-five and thirty roundabout. And she had shortish hair. I think she had a fringe, but untidy.

M: Did you notice the clothing at all?

W: Er...she had a white collar...open-necked shirt I think...or blouse and what looked like a velvet jacket but I can't remember the colonr...I think it was a green or a brown but it was some dark colour.

M: OK. Well, let's go to the man now that you just saw...if you could just describe him to me because there wasn't much on the report that you left with the sergeant.

W: Yes...well...I noticed he was wearing a funny kind of woolen jacket.

M: A bulky sort of jacket, was it? Thick knit or...?

W: Well...yes...nut really very bulky. It looked as ff it was knitted and it had a sort of woolen collar and I think he was wearing an open-necked shirt too. He was younger than her. I should think he was in his early twenties.

M: Yes. Anything about the shirt that you noticed...was it just a plain white shirt or was it any other sort?

W: I think it was striped but I can't be perfectly sure, but I do re member his hair was sort of wavy and brushed back and shortish.

M: OK. Well, that's fine. Thanks very much. If you leave your phone number with the desk sergeant, maybe we'll contact you in the near future.

听力原文:W: Sit down please, Mr. Johnson.

M: Nice to meet you, ma'am.

W: I have read your letter here. You seem to have done very well in school. Can you tell me something about your schoolwork?

M: As you can see, my strongest subjects were art subjects. My best subject was history, and my second best was geography. However, my favorite subject was math, and the results 1 got in the math paper were quite reasonable.

W: That' s hue. Now, can you tell me why you think these subjects will help you in this job?

M: Well, ma' am, I understand that you manufacture computers, prepare software, and advise diets on how to use them. Is that right?

W: What's right.

M: And I've been told that working with computers needs a logical mind rather than great skills in mathematics. That' s especially true, I believe, when it comes to writing programs. So I think my results show that I have some ability in logic and in mathematics as well.

W: So, you would like to write material for computers, would you?

M: Yes, ma'am. That's what interests me most about computers, writing programs. But I think the computer industry itself is still expanding enormously. I' m sure that career prospects in the industry would be very good.

W: I see. Well, thank you. I've enjoyed our talk. We'll be writing to you.

M: Thank you, ma' am. Goodbye.

听力原文:MA Have you seen Rachel today?

WB Not yet. But it's only eight forty-five. I'll let her know you're looking for her when she gets in, which should be any minute now. Is there anything I should tell her?

MA Yes. We have an urgent situation with one of the pieces of art that was supposed to be revised for the Henderson poster. It should have been in yesterday afternoon. When I didn't see it this morning, I called the art vendor and they said they never received the revision request. This poster is supposed to go back to Henderson for confirmation today.

WB I'll let her know. But try not to worry—if the revision is minor we should be able to do it in-house first thing this morning.

What is learned about Rachel?

A.She is often late.

B.She called in sick.

C.She left for the day.

D.She will arrive soon.

听力原文:M: I'm doing some research into the French revolution.

W: Oh, I did some on that last year.

M: Why do you think I'm here! Could you suggest some interesting and useful sources?

W: Sure. I found Voices from the French Revolution by Henri Le Brun to be very useful, as well as extremely interesting and well written.

M: What makes it so good?

W: Well, he took extracts from diaries kept by people involved in the revolution. They really give you an idea of how it felt to live in France during that time.

M: It sounds great. Why haven't I heard of it before?

W: Well, it's only just been translated from the French original and none of the professors have added it to their booklists yet. I used the French version and translated pages myself.

M: I see. I have been told that The French Revolution by Victoria Jones is useful.

W: I didn't find it very useful. I mean, there was nothing in it that you can't find elsewhere. On the other hand, it's cheap, because it's available in paperback, and you can buy it at many bookshops.

M: What about using resources available on the Internet?

W: I used the Internet for my research, but I didn't find it very helpful. Many of the websites were too small to contain much detailed information. Others provided links to other websites, but I found myself spending a lot of time following links and not finding much information.

M: Yes, I've run across that problem myself.

W: You could try the new edition of William Wright's book. It has the same title as Victoria Jones' book. It only came out a couple of months ago and I haven't seen a copy yet. A lot of it has been rewritten or consists of additional material recently found in French archives.

M: Thanks for your help. I'll go to the bookshop and see if I can find the books you've recommended.

W: When does your research have to be completed by?

M: Well, the essay is due in six weeks, so I'll try to finish the research in four, giving me two to write the essay.

W: Good luck!

(23)

A.It's interesting.

B.It's French.

C.It's well written.

D.It's a useful source.
