Walk'n Roll to School Day
The School District of Pittsfield, together with the help of many local volunteers, has coordinated Pittsfield's first Walk'n Roll to School Day on October 5. On October 5, children and their parents are encouraged to walk, jog and ride their bicycles to school. This event was created in response to a growing trend in childhood weight related health problems, and to recognize that we all care about the health of our children and the health of our community.
As part of the event, an all-day educational festival will take place at the Darrow Elementary School, focusing on how walking and bicycling to school can improve children's health, and provide numerous other benefits to the community. We will need several volunteers to make this event come off smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Melissa Thompson at direct line: (352) 643-0129 or fax: (352) 643-0135. You can also stop by her office (located in the administrative office suite) at the Darrow Elementary School.
Dear Melissa,
I just called to talk to you about the Walk'n Roll to School Day, but you were not in the office. I am really excited at the event and am happy to volunteer in whatever capacity you need. I have noticed among my son's friends, that many of them could use some additional exercise. I believe that weight-related problems in children come from not playing outside, and not only from diet. I am so glad the school district has come up with this fun way to encourage walking to school.
You can call me at (352) 728-1100. If I am not in, let me know if there is a good time this week I could stop by to talk to you about this. My son is a fifth grader at Darrow, and I'll be here every day this week to drop him off and pick him up.
Hope to talk to you soon,
Danielle Schroeder

M: Oh, right, well, in that case. I'd advise you to get there early. (22)It opens at 10 o'clock in the morning on weekends. Look, I think I've got a plan of the place somewhere. Let me see.., yes, here we are. You can have this.
W: Thanks.
M: OK, I'll show you. Let's start with the lower level. See? Here? You arrive by taxi or bus or whatever here, on the right, can you see? That's the bus terminal. And you go ill through the main entrance. (23)You could go to the Water World first but I think you'd better skip that as you're short of time.
W: I can see the cable cars.
M: OK, walk past the cable car terminal, at tile bottom of the plan, (24)and bear right past the Waterfall Gardens. Actually, have a look in, there are ducks and other birds in the pool there--it's very pretty. Then you'll see some steps up on the left. Follow that path and you'll come to tile Centenary Garden which is a good place to stop and take pictures if you've got your camera.
W: What's the next place?
M: Then carry on until you're almost at the Children Zoo. It takes quite a long time to walk around. But I do recommend the "touch and feed" section opposite, as I said. (25)The Fun Fair is very interesting, but it's great fun for older children.

听力原文:W: Rex, can you give me a hand with one of those bags?
M: Sure, Lucy.
W: Could you take this one please? I didn't realize how heavy these bags would be.
M: Why did you borrow so many books from the library when you have to walk back to your room from there?
W: Well, I didn't intend to. Indeed, most of the books aren't mine. On my way back I met two classmates who asked me to bring their stuff as they were going to a party. And I'm also going there later, you know, after 1 drop all these bags.
M: What's the occasion?
W: Our professor, Prof Lee, has been on vacation for a month and we thought we'd surprise him. We're getting together for a welcome party.
M: Oh, that's really thoughtful of you.
W: We figure it's the least we can do for him. He's really helped me a lot with my last term paper.
M: Really? That's very kind of him.
W: Well, he understood how difficult it was to submit the paper by the deadline when I was in the hospital, so he granted me a month's extension. He's been such a big help to me. I thought that this might be a small way to thank him.
