听力原文:There is increasing scientific evidence that large cars cause more highway accide

听力原文: There is increasing scientific evidence that large cars cause more highway accidents than small cars. In the news recently was the story of a woman who died of a heart attack while driving her station wagon. The car was moving so fast that it went through the highway-dividing fence, resulting in a collision in which five people died. Those unnecessary deaths are attributable in part to the woman's choice of a large automobile. A lighter and smaller car probably wouldn't have gone through the fence, because the heavier the ear, the greater the force it will have in a collision. Furthermore, even if the lighter car had broken through the fence, its remaining energy would have been much less, and this would have reduced the chances of serious injury or death. Because of its small size, it might have missed the other car completely. The present design of the oversized automobile is largely responsible ant only for the increasing death toll on the highway but also for the rapid depletion of our resources of petroleum, for the pollution of our environment, for urban sprawl, and for the congestion and inconvenience of our cities.

A.The story of a woman who died of a heart attack.

B.The story of a car going through the highway-dividing fence.

C.The story of a collision in which five people died.

D.Large cars cause more highway accidents than small cars.

听力原文: A small dog brought disaster to a small English town last week. It was trying to cross a busy street but was too frightened to leave the strip in the middle of the street.

A truck driver parked his truck on the side of the road and got out to help it. While he was going to get the dog, his track rolled down the street. It smashed into four parked cars, crashed through a fence, rolled down a bank and smashed into a row of houses. Only the driver was hurt. The dog bit him on the hand while he was carrying it.

Here is another story about dogs. A nine-year-old child, who nearly drowned while she was swimming in a home swimming pool, was saved by the family dog on Saturday. The child was alone in the large pool at the time.

The family of the dog said it would receive an extra large bone as a reward.

听力原文: English and most other European languages have descended from a common source: t
he Indo-European parent language.

English was first spoken by the Anglo-Saxons who invaded England in the fifth century. They passed onto us the basic vocabulary of English, such as "me, you, sheep, and wood". Then the Vikings came into the land, bringing their own language into English. Some words like "sky, and skirt" are from Norse. Later in 55 B. C. , Julius Ceasar invaded Britain. Norman French found its way into the English language, making up the part spoken by the nobleman. The words like "royal, and government" were often spoken by the upper class. In over 15 centuries of development, English has borrowed from other languages massively, including Spain , whose language like "angel, and disciple" is often used in churches in Britain, and also Creek, and even Chinese and Japanese. It's said there are over one million words in the English dictionary.

As settlers established the United States as an independent nation, a new variety was added to the English language: American English. Though some people worry that the language may run out of control, many native speakers of English disapprove of building the fence around their language. They take pride in both the tolerance of invading of other languages and the tolerance of changing their language.

Which parent language is English believed to descend from?

A.European parent language.

B.Latin parent language.

C.Indian parent language.

D.Indo-European parent language.
