Pan Tianci and Gao Di, who were born in 1919 and 1920 respectively, have spent 93 years together and been married for 81 years. Gao joined Pan&39; s family as a child bride when she was only two, and later got married at 14. Now they have a family boasting four generations and 15 members in total.

Marriages that have lasted more than 80 years are known as "oak marriages", and are very rare. It is said that only 20 or so couples in the world have oak marriages. Oak is labeled as the free of mystery. Being the tallest and exuberant tree in the world, oak tree is in charge of Cupid the god of love in the Greek ancient myth. Text 2

Recently in the Scottish Highlands, 260 theatergoers were led up a well-lit, pin-tree-lined con- crete path. Their destination? A vacant water plant. The large concrete space had the impersonal feel of an army camp-exactly the atmosphere the producers of Black Watch hoped to reproduce. The play is based on the true story of a Highlands troop sent overseas in 2004.

Essentially, site-specific theater refers to plays produced in places directly relevant to their ac-tion. At the Museum Hotel in Wellington, New Zealand, audiences filed into room 217 to watch atale about the various personalities who had occupied the room over time. "I think people are tired of the same old plays in the same confines of space, " says Paul McLaughlin, who produced Hotel."Drama happens all around us-at the bus stop, in a supermarket-so we attempted to show how people can interact with the space that surrounds them. "

To be sure, on-scene productions present their own set of challenges. Producers of Black Watch

had to scout around London for a location for when the show comes to the British capital. But for many audience members, leaving the comfort of their theater seats makes for a more meaningful experience. "A lot of site-specific work challenges the way you look and think. " says Nick Kaye,a drama professor at the University of Exeter.

Site-specific shows can also satisfy the growing desire for individualized entertainment fueled

by on-demand television and the Internet .ln Faust, which the London-based theater group Punch-drunk just wrap.ped up, audience members got to pick what they wanted to see. Housed in an old five-story storehouse in east London, the play featured different settings. Audience members could choose to watch a scene and follow certain actors from location to location. Felix Barrett, the direc-tor of Faust, says today's theatergoers expect more than just the traditional audience-actor relation-ship. "What I wanted to do was to create a piece where the audience can carve out the night they want to have, and it stays with them. "Creating a strong sense of place goes a long way toward a-chieving that.

51. Recently, 260 Scottish people went to a deserted water plant________

[A] to tour a newly-built military base

[B] to watch a play about military life

[C] to visit a military troop back home

[ D] to attend a military training program

"...We are not about to enter the Information Age, but instead are rather well into it." P
resent predictions are that by 1990, about thirty million jobs in the United States, or about thirty percent of the job market, will be computer-related. In 1980, only twenty-one percent of all American high schools owned one or two computers for student use. In the fall of 1985, a new study showed that half of United States secondary schools have fifteen or more computers for student use. And now educational experts, administrators, and even the general public are demanding that all students become" computer literate". By the year 2000 knowledge of computers will be necessary in over eighty percent of all occupations. Soon those people not educated in computer use will be compared to those who are print illiterate today.

What is "computer literacy"? The term itself seems to imply some degree of" knowing" about computers, but knowing what? The present opinion seems to be that this should include a general knowledge of what computers are, plus a little of their history and something of how they operate.

Therefore, it is important that educators everywhere take a careful look not only at what is being done, but also at what should be done in the field of computer education. Today most adults are able to use a motor car without the slightest knowledge of how the internalcombustion engine (内燃机) works. We effectively use all types of electrical equipment without being able to tell their histories or to explain how they work.

Business people for years have made good use of typewriters and adding machines, yet few have ever known how to repair them. Why, then, attempt to teach computers by teaching how or why they work?

Rather, we first must fix our mind on teaching the effective use of the computer as the tool is.

"Knowing how to use a computer is what's going to be important. We don't talk about 'auto- mobile literacy'. We just get in our cars and drive them."

The underlined part "print illiterate" in the text refers to ______.

A.one who has never learnt printing

B.one who has never learnt to read

C.one who is not computer literate

D.one who is not able to use a typewriter

t through a working day.But here’s what I did know:something huge was happenin9.It was stirring economies and imaginations and possibilities like nothing I had ever known.I knew the world was changing in ways that meant I shouldn’t count on old assumptions. And I knew I had dreams I still hadn’t fulfilled. But I didn’t know how to realize them until I met with my old friend,Rollys Rouse, when we happened to move into the same neighborhood.

Rolly often called me with a stream of ideas. His rate of idea production per second seemed al- most incredible.Soon we were on the phone with each other every day.Talking about the Internet. TalMng about starting a new online company-maybe together. He was then developing a plan and he wanted me to be a part of it:we would give people wonderful, whole electronic houses on a CD-ROM and let them modify those homes to their own needs.Try out different windows and doors, different paint colors and furnishings. When they were satisfied,we would enable them to go online to make the project happen,to get the products and the financing and the。professional design and construction to help to do it outright. BuildingBlocks was the name Rolly came up with for his new enterprise.Rolly took the plunge first. He simply dropped his profitable energy—consulting business to commit himself full time to BuildingBlocks.I soon joined him after I quit my well—paid job at a newspaper. Together we developed a demo to show the features of our CD—ROM,“The New American Dream Home”.Then we took it to the annual convention of the National Association of Home Builders in Boston. All the big companies were there showing off their。latest products. To our delight, nearly everyone was eager to see what we were showin9,.including the top executives of some enormous companies. When we left,we had invitations from them to come to their offices to tell them more about BuildingBlocks. 听力原文: Many of us believe that a person's mind becomes less active as he grows older. But this is not true, according to Dr. Lissy F. Javik, professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Jarvik has studied the mental functioning of aging persons for several years. For example, one of her studies concerns 136 pairs of identical twins, who were first examined when they were already 60 years old. As Dr. Jarvik's continued the study of the twins into their 70s and 8Os, their minds did not generally decline as was expected.

However, there was some decline in their psychomotor speed. This means that it took them longer to accomplish mental tasks than it used to. But when speed was not a factor, they last very little intellectual ability over the years. In general, Dr. Jarvik's studies have shown that there is no decline in knowledge or reasoning ability. This is true not only into the 30s and 40s but also into 60s and 70s as well.

As for learning new things, and ability to remember, studies by Dr. Jarvik and others show that the old are equal to the young. It is true that older people themselves often complain that their memory is not as good as it once was. However, much of what we call "loss of memory" is not that at all. There usually was incomplete learning in the first place. For example, the older person perhaps had trouble hearing or poor vision, or inattention, or was trying to learn the new thing at a speed that was too fast.

In the cases where the older person's mind really seems to decay, it is not necessarily a sign of a decay due to old age or "senility". Often it is simply a sign of a depressed emotional state. The depression usually can be counteracted by counseling, therapy with a psychologist, or medications which fight depression.

(30)

A.It remains as active as ever.

B.It tends to be less active.

C.It loses the ability to reason.

D.It functions well in learning new things.
