听力原文: Barbara Sanders is a wife and the mother of two children, ages 2 and 4. Her husband, Tom, is an engineer and makes an excellent salary. Before Barbara had children, she worked as an architect for the government, designing government housing. She quitted her job when she became pregnant, but is now interested in returning to work. She's been offered an excellent job with the government. Her husband feels it's unnecessary for her to work since the family does not need the added income. He also thinks that a woman should stay home with her children. If Barbara feels the need to do socially important work, he thinks that she should do volunteer work one or two days a week. Barbara, on the other hand, has missed the excitement of her profession and does not feel she would be satisfied doing volunteer work. She would also like to have her own income, so she does not have to ask her husband for money whenever she wants to buy something. She does not think it's necessary to stay home every day with the children and she knows a very reliable babysitter who's willing to come to her house. Tom does not think a baby-sitter can replace a mother and thinks it's a bad idea for the children to spend so much time with someone who's not part of the family.

What was Barbara's profession before she had children?

A.Fashion designer.

B.Architect.

C.City planner.

D.Engineer.

听力原文: When Colonel Harland Sanders retired at the age of 65,he had little to show for himself, except an old Caddie roadster,a $105 monthly pension check, and a recipe for chicken.

Knowing he couldn't live on his pension,he took his chicken recipe in hand, got behind the wheel of his van, and set out to make his fortune. His first plan was to sell his chicken recipe to restaurant owners, who would in rum pay him some money for every piece of chicken they sold--5 cents per chicken. The first restaurateur he called on turned him down.

So did the second.

So did the third.

In fact, the first 1008 sales calls Colonel Sanders made ended in rejection.Still,he continued to call on owners as he traveled across the USA,sleeping in his car to save money.Prospect number 1009 gave him his first"yes".

After two years of making daily sales he had signed up a total of five restaurants.Still the Colonel pressed on,knowing that he had a great chicken recipe and that someday the idea would catch on.

Of course, you know how the story ends. The idea DID catch on.By 1963 the Colonel had 600 restaurants across the country selling his secret recipe of Kentucky Fried Chicken with 11 herbs and spices.

What does the speaker say about Colonel Harland Sanders when he retired?

A.He had no pension.

B.He had a great car.

C.He was right at the age of 56.

D.He owned a recipe for chicken.

听力原文:M: Hey, Ellen, you'll never guess who I met last week. Barbara Johnson.

W: You don't mean the Barbara Johnson who directed the choir that performed on campus last weekend?

M: That's right.

W: But she's so famous. How did you get to meet her?

M: Well, you know how in that program they handed out, they printed the words to the choral pieces a long with the translations. I found all these mistakes in the Latin text, you know typographic... Wait a minute. You were actually reading the words.

W: I like to follow the text while I'm listening. It helps me understand what they are singing about. Any way, while they were doing those Latin pieces.

M: I notice all these mistakes, mostly spelling errors. It was really annoying. So after the concert all those people were crowding around back stage to see her and the soloist...

W: Yeah, I remember there were dozens of people waiting there for autographs.

M: Well, I waited to the end, and then when I met Barbara Johnson I showed her the mistakes I'd found.

W: Was she upset?

M: Upset? She actually thanked me and said if I sent her a copy of the corrected text, she would revise it for the next time they sing those pieces and even print my name in the acknowledgement as a pro gram editor.

W: Wow, your Latin must be pretty good to find all those errors.

B.That he had a conversation with the director of a choir.

C.That he's been translating some Latin poems for a class.

We have had several lectures on the importance of cell phones and several new kinds of portable computers and other electronic devices which are based on related technologies.

M: What other kinds of topics will you be covering?

W: We are going to discuss high bandwidth Internet connections, like cable modems, which will allow us to exchange information more quickly. And from there, we will focus on how Internet, TV, radio and telephone technologies are all starting to come together.

M: I was just reading about that in the newspaper. But how does that relate to online business?

W: As these technologies converge in the near future, a new high-speed network will develop which will be perfect for the distribution of products and services online.
