听力原文:An American study found, on average, a child watches between four and five hours

听力原文: An American study found, on average, a child watches between four and five hours of television each weekday, and ten hours on Saturday and Sunday. It was also noted that a typical child watches 25, 000 hours of television before his or her 18th birthday. In the life of Children, watching television is a significant sensory ex perience. Many children easily spend more time with the box than they do with any other form. of entertainment. Each year children read less and less and watch television more and more. In fact, Americans of all ages watch more television each year. The typical child sits in front of the television about four hours a day -- and for children in lower socioeconomic families the a mount of time thus spent is even greater. In either case, the child spends more time with TV than he or she spends talking to parents, playing with peers, attending school, or reading books. TV time appropriates family time, play time, and the reading time that could pro mote language development. Watching TV is a passive event. Children and adults, remain completely immobile while viewing the box. Most viewing experiences, at least among Americans, are both quiet and non-inter active. All attention is given to the images. Just like the operating room light, television creates an environment that attacks and beats the child; he can respond to it only by bringing into play his shutdown mechanism, and thus becomes more passive. Children arc often hooked. A highly active child will remain inactive while watching TV because that is what the medium requires. To morrow, we shall talk about violence on TV and its effects on children.

(33)

A.Children's IQ and TV.

B.The whole amount of time children spend watching TV.

C.The effect TV has on learning.

D.The amount of time the average child spends watching TV.

听力原文: Nearly 400 years ago a young man traveled up to London. The young man had come on foot from Stradfurd-on-Avon, a small town on the Avon. He was poor, but he had confidence in his future, the future of a great actor. His name was William Shakespeare.

He had not been in London very long before he noticed that play-goers all went to the theatre on horseback. "Here is an opportunity!" he thought," There must be someone to take care of the horses when people are watching a play." Soon the actors found the young man a very premising actor and he was given an opportunity to play a part on the stage. From that time on, his name became known. But he was not content with the life of an actor. He took great interest in play-writing. The plays he wrote, popular in England of his own time and up to the present day, have shown him to be one of the greatest writers the world has ever produced. He is among those who are loved by the people in all time and in all lands.

(30)

听力原文: Hollywood produces many different kinds of films, including mysteries, musicals, love stories, and horror films. As different as these films may be, they generally have one thing in common conflict. The main character wants something very badly and will do anything to get it. The opponent tries to stop the main character from achieving his goal. This opposition creates conflict, and conflict is the heart of drama. To give an example, let's say the main character is a young man of humble origin who wants to marry the beautiful daughter of a rich banker. The father thinks the young man is unworthy of his daughter, and he does not allow her to see him. The young man, who's very much in love, refuses to give up without a fight. The conflict between the young man and the girl's father is what makes the story interesting; it forces the main character to take action, and through their actions we see them as they actually are. In a good story, the main character changes he is not the same at the end of the story as he was at the beginning. He learns something from his experiences that make him a different, perhaps batter person. And we learn something from watching him. Good movies not only entertain us, they also help us understand a little more about life.

(23)

A.Love.

B.Violence.

C.Conflict.

D.Mystery.

听力原文: Wilt Chamberlain is retired now. He used to be a famous basketball player. He has set 65 different records, and still holds many of them. During the final years of his career, he drew a large salary and became very wealthy. He even built himself a 1.5 million dollars' house. Yet, despite his personal success, he led his team to only one championship. His team often won enough games to qualify for the final rounds, but they almost always lost in the finals. As a result, Wilt became determined to win one more championship before he retired.

In 1972, while Wilt was playing against a New York team, he fell down and hit his wrist on the floor. He felt pain immediately and knew he had hurt himself badly. When a doctor examined Wilt, the doctor confirmed Wilt' s fear. The doctor told Wilt that he had broken a bone in the wrist and that he could not play any longer.

Wilt didn' t listen to his doctor' s advice. The next night, with his many fans watching in surprise, he not only played the entire game, but he was outstanding. His team won the game and the championship. Wilt had realized his dream--to be a winner one last time.

(30)

A.Because he set as many as sixty-five different records.

B.Because he led his team to many championships.

C.Because he still played the game after he retired.

D.Because he didn' t stop playing even when his wrist was broken.
