根据下列文章,请回答 36~40 题。

Exercise Lowers Employers’Health Costs

Companies can save millions in health-care costs simply by encouragingtheir employees to exercise a little bit, researchers reported on Friday.

They said obese(肥胖的)employeeshad higher health-care costs, but lowered those expenses by exercising just acouple of times a week—without even losing any weight.

Feifei Wang andcolleagues at the University of Michigan studied 23,500 workers at GeneralMotors. They estimated that getting the most sedentary(惯于久坐的)obese workers to exercisewould have saved about$790,000 a year,or about 1.5 percent of health-care costsfor the whole group.

Company-wide.thepotential savings could reach$7.1 million per year, they reported in the Journalof Occupational and Environmental,Medicine.

Of the whole groupof workers。about 30 percent were of normal weight,45 percent were overweight(超重的),and25 percent were obese.Annual health—care costs averaged$2,200 for normal weight,$2,400for the overweight,and$2,700 for obese employees.

But among workerswho did no exercise, health—care costs went up by at least$1 00 a year,andwere$3,000 a year for obese employees who were sedentary.

But adding two ormore days of light exercise—at least 20 minutes of exercise or work hard enoughto increase heart rate and breathing—lowered costs by on average $500 peremployee a year, the researchers found.

“This indicatesthat physical activity behavior. could reduce at least some of the harmfuleffects of excess body fat。and in consequence, help lower the health—care costs,”Wangand colleagues wrote.

根据下列文章,请回答 36~40 题。

New Foods and the New World

In the last 500 years, nothing about people -- not their clothes, ideas, or languages-- has changed as much as what they eat. The original chocolate drink was made from the seeds of the cocoa tree (可可树) by South American Indians. The Spanish introduced it to the rest of the world during the 1500's. And although it was very expensive, it quickly became fashionable. In London, shops where chocolate drinks were served became important meeting places. Some still exist today.

The potato is also from the New World. Around 1600, the Spanish brought it from Peru to Europe, where it soon was widely grown. Ireland became so dependent on it that thousands of Irish people starved when the crop failed during the "Potato Famine (饥荒)" of 1845-1846, and thousands more were forced to leave their homeland and move to America.

There are many other foods that have traveled from South America to the Old World. But some others went in the opposite direction. Brazil is now the world's largest grower of coffee, and coffee is an important crop in Colombia and other South American countries. But it is native to Ethiopia, a country in Africa. It was first made into a drink by Arabs during the 1400's.

According to an Arabic legend, coffee was discovered when a person named Kaldi noticed that his goats were attracted to the red berries on a coffee bush. He tried one and experienced the "wide-awake" feeling that one-third of the world's population now starts the day with.

第 36 题 According to the passage, which of the following has changed the most in the last 500 years?

A.Food.

B.Clothing.

C.Ideology.

D.Language.
