回答题

A.The difference between being a manager and being a leader is simple. Management is a career.Leadership is a callin9.You don’t have to be tall, well—spoken and good looking to be a successful leader. You don’t have to have that“special somethin9”to fulfill the leadership role.

B.What you have to have is clearly defined convictions and, more importantly, the courage of your convictions to see them manifest into reality.Only when you understand your role as guide and steward based on your own most deeply held truths can you move from manager to leader.

C.Whether the group you oversee is called employees,associates,CO-workers, teammates or anything else, what they are looking for is someone in whom they can place their trust.Someone they know is working for the greater Good for them and for the organization. They’re looking for someone not only that they can but alse that they want to follow.

D.Because it is only when you have followers people who have placed their trust in you that you know you have moved into that leadership role. And the way you see is that your organization is transcending all previous quality, productivity, innovation and revenue achievements. You’re operating at such a high level of efficiency that you’re giving budget back to the corporation and you’re still beating your goals.

How does Science Proceed?

How exactly does science work? How do scientists go about "doing" science? Ordinarily we think science proceeds in a straightforward way. Ideally, scientists make observations, formulate hypotheses, and test those hypotheses by making further observations. When there is difference between what is observed and what is predicted by the hypothesis, the hypothesis is reviewed. Science proceeds in this way, which is a gradual method of finding the best fit between observation and prediction.

But this idealized version of how one "does" science is naive.Although science demands proof that observations made by one observer be observable by other observers using the same methods. It is by no means clear that even when confronted with identical phenomena different observers will report identical observations.

And it is most certain that, even if the same observations are made, the conclusions as to the meaning of the observations frequently differ.

The fact is that all of us scientists included, see differently. Variations in human perception are well known and have been studied extensively. Distortions in perceptions are frequently seen among observers, even though they may be in identical settings viewing identical phenomena. A documented misperception from history can be found in the experience of Darwin. His ship, Beagle, after anchoring off the Patagonian coast, sent off a landing party in small rowboats. Amazingly, the Patagonian natives watching from shore were blind to the Beagle, but could easily see the tiny rowboats. They have no prior experience of huge sailing ships, but small rowing vessels were an everyday part of their life. Rowboats fit their model of the world but huge ships did not.Their model determined their perceptions.

Our ideas that science proceeds on an utterly objective and straightforward basis ignores the distortions of reality imposed by our own perceptual apparatus. In many cases we see what we have been trained to see, what we are used to seeing. If a subject is fitted with special glasses that are designed to invert the visual field, at first the subject sees everything upside down. After a period of time, as the glasses continue to be worn, a correction is made by our perceptual mechanism and the image is flipped, so that the world once again appears erect.

What is the main idea of the passage? 查看材料

A.The research methods used by scientists

B.Observation and human perception variation

C.The relation between hypothesis and observation

D.The human perceptual mechanism

The Difference between Man and Computer

What makes people different from computer programs? What is the missing element that our theories don&39;t yet __________ (51) for? The answer is simple: People read newspaper stories for a reason: to learn more about __________ (52) they are interested in. Computers, on the other hand,don&39;t. In fact, computers don&39;t __________ (53) have interests; there is nothing in particular that they are trying to fred out when they read. If a computer __________ (54) is to be a model of story understanding, it should also read for a "purpose".
Of course, people have several goals that do not make __________ (55) to attribute to computers. One might read a restaurant guide __________ (56) order to satisfy hunger or entertainment goals, or to __________ (57) a good place to go for a business lunch. Computers do not get hungry, and computers do not have business lunches.
However, these physiological and social goals give __________(58) to several intellectual or cognitive goals. A goal to satisfy hunger gives rise to goals to fmd __________ (59) about the name of a restaurant which __________ (60) the desired type of food, how expensive the restaurant is, the location of the restaurant, etc. These are goals to __________ (61) information or knowledge, what we are calling __________ (62) goals. These goals can be held by computers too; a computer__________ (63) "want" to find out the location of a restaurant, and read a guide in order to do so__________ (64) the same way as a person might. While such a goal would not __________(65) out of hunger in the case of the computer, it might well arise out of the "goal" to learn more about restaurants

请根据短文的内容,回答题。

Maglev Trains

(1) A few countries are using powerful electromagnets to develop high-speed trains, calledmaglev trains. Maglev is short for magnetic levitation, which means that these trains float over a guide way using the basic principles of magnets to replace the old steel wheel and track trains.
(2) If you&39;ve ever played with magnets, you know that opposite poles attract and like poles repel each other. This is the basic principle behind electromagnetic propulsion. Electromagnets are similar to other magnets in that they attract metal objects, but the magnetic pull is temporary.
You can easily create a small electromagnet yourself by connecting the ends of a copper wire to the positive and negative ends of an AA-cell battery. This creates a small magnetic field. If you disconnect either end of the wire from the battery, the magnetic field is taken away.
(3) The magnetic field created in this wire-and-battery experiment is the simple idea behind a maglev train rail system. There are three components to this system: A large electrical power source, metal coils lining a guide way or track, and large guidance magnets attached to the underside of the train.
(4) The big difference between a maglev train and a conventional train is that maglev trains do not have an engine -- at least not the kind of engine used to pull typical train cars along steel tracks4. The engine for maglev trains is rather unnoticeable. Instead of using fossil fuels, the magnetic field created by the electrified coils in the guideway walls and the track combines to propel the trains.
(5) The magnetized coil running along the track, called a guideway, repels the large magnets on the train&39;s undercarriage, allowing the train to levitate between 1 to 10 cm above the guideway. Once the train is levitated, power is supplied to the coils within the guideway walls to create a unique system of magnetic fields that pull and push the train along the guideway. The electric current supplied to the coils in the guideway walls is constantly alternating to change the polarity of the magnetized coils. This change in polarity causes the magnetic field in front of the train to pull the vehicle forward, while the magnetic field behind the train adds more forward thrust.
(6) Maglev trains float on a cushion of air, eliminating friction. This lack of friction allows these trains to reach unprecedented ground transportation speeds of more than 500 kph, or twice as fast as the fastest conventional train. At 500 kph, you could travel from Paris to Rome in just over two hour<

Paragraph 3 __________ 查看材料

A.The main components of the maglev train system

B.High-speed maglev due to zero friction

C.The working principle of the maglev train

D.Differences between polarity and magnetic field

E.Comparison of maglev trains with traditional ones

Science and Technology

There is a difference between science and technology.__________(46) Science has to do withdiscovering the facts and relationships between observable phenomena in nature and with establis-hing theories that serve to organize these facts and relationships; technology has to do with tools, techniques, and procedures for applying the findings of science. __________(47)

Progress in science excludes the human factor. Scientists, who seek to understand the uni-verse and know the truth within the highest degree of accuracy and certainty, cannot pay attention to their own or other peoples likes or dislikes or to popular ideas about the fitness of things.__________ (48) But even an unpleasant truth is more than likely to be useful; besides, we have the choice of refusing to believe it! But hardly so with technology; we do not have the choice of refusing to hear the sound produced by a supersonic (超音速的) aircraft flying overhead; we cannot refuse to breathe polluted air. __________(49) The purpose of technology is to serve peo-pie——people in general, not merely some people; and future generations, not merely those who presently wish to gain advantage for themselves.__________ (50) Many people blame technology itself for widespread pollution, resource depletion (枯竭) and even social decay in general——so much so that the promise of technology is "obscured". That promise is a cleaner and healthier world. If wise applications of science and technology do not lead to a better world, what else will?

(46)__________ 查看材料

A.Another distinction between science and technology has to do with the progress in each.

B.Unlike science, progress in technology must be measured in terms of the human factor.

C.What scientists discover may shock or anger people——as did Darwin"s theory of evolution.

D.Science and technology are different.

E.We are all familiar with the improper use of technology.

F.Science is a method of answering theoretical questions; technology is a method of solving practical problems.
