听力原文: In the modern world, it is important to be well-informed. Success in many fields depends on getting the latest information. To keep up with what is happening in the world, well-informed people read newspapers and news magazines. They listen to the news on the radio and they watch it on television. Owners of home computers can even receive their news directly from the wire services--news agencies that supply newspapers, magazines, radio and television with news reports through special telephone links.
Most people read newspapers for the news of the day. The typical daily newspaper contains articles about local, regional, national, and international news, as well as sports news, weather reports, editorials, and other features. In large cities, newspaper readers can often choose between a "morning paper" distributed early in the morning and an "evening paper" distributed at the end of the workday. Most American newspapers also publish an enlarged Sunday edition containing articles about the news of the day and of the week, plus a number of entertainment and advertising supplements. Daily newspapers are designed to be read quickly by busy people looking for specific information. The Sunday papers, on the other hand, are intended to entertain as well as inform, and they tend to be read leisurely by all members of the family. Other types of newspapers include campus newspapers, written by students at universities, and weekly newspapers, usually intended for a specific audience.

听力原文: We hear it a lot in the news these days:
"Recycle newspapers and save a tree. Collect bottles and calls so they can be reused in the manufacturing of new products."
Protecting our delicate environment seems to be on the agenda of politicians, government leaders, and citizens in many parts of the world to show support for mother nature. The concept of green consumerism has gained impetus more and more over the last decade, and the public feels moved to join in and help. However, three essential keys needed to power this movement include a more informed public, the development of improved technology, and a greater demand for recycled materials.
Let's use paper as an example. The first step is to raise public awareness about the recycling process, to explain the kinds of materials that can be recycled, and provide ways on how to properly dispose of them. Local governments should educate the public on how to properly sort reusable materials from those, like waxed paper, carbon paper, plastic material such as fast food wrappers, that can't be recycled very easily. Then, a system of collecting these sorted materials needs to be established. Give the public information they can grasp, and then you will increase your chances of gaining followers.
Second, technological progress has been made on many fronts, but governmental agencies need to step up their support for companies involved in recycling by providing tax incentives, lowcost loans, or even grants to upgrade equipment and to encourage further research.
The final key is to increase demand for the growing surplus of resources waiting to be recycled. This problem has appeared in various regions of the world where the technology to process the used materials lags far behind the amount being collected for recycling.
Recycling is a crucial link protecting our planet. The three keys mentioned are important ways to achieve this end.

Aside from the means of advertising, public relation can also use news releases, press conferences, speaking engagements, and community service programs to reach its goal. All this is done so that the public would view the organization in a way that it wants to be perceived.
Another difference is that public relation is more of a two-way communication. It not only communicates to the public, collecting the views from the public is also one important part in the PR's agenda. By doing so, the organization would have a clear idea to find out the gap between the ideal image and the reality. And then efforts can be made to lessen this gap.
Many small business owners opt to handle the public relations issues themselves, while others choose to hire a public relations specialist. The in-house public relations department and the external PR agencies both have their own advantages. For example, a PR department within a company has a deeper understanding about the structure, target audience, and the products/ services of the organization and it can also devote all its attention to the organization it is in. While on the other hand, a specialized agency could handle all these issues more professionally, And since a specialized agency deals with PR issues for different organizations, it would easily create some new opportunities and programs for the organization.
Some specialists give a thought-provoking perspective on this issue: public relations should be taken care of in the public interest. From this perspective, organizations attempt to generate good will and position themselves as responsible citizens through a variety of programs conducted in the public interest. Consumer education as well as various other public interest programs belongs to this category.
