Text 2It seems now that a dollar is not the same as that ten years ago. We can not use it

Text 2

It seems now that a dollar is not the same as that ten years ago. We can not use it to buy as many things as before. No one can deny that one dollar is worth 100 cents. The amount of money is fixed but the value has experienced great changes. Do our living conditions get decreased? Many people are confused about this question.

All the goods are ruled by the axioms of supply and demand. We all know that workers earn more than before, as a result, they have more to pay for what they need or what they like. The great demand promotes the price to go up. At the same time, if there is a shortage, the price also goes up. According to the economists, the value of money depends on the cost of living. The cost of living is what we spend on the necessities. The food, housing and medical expenses have increased largely these years, so the value of money has decreased. For some people whose salary . has not increased much, the expense of living becomes a headache. Don't worry about that. To help you better manage your salary and keep the quality of your life, here comes some money saving tips.

First, you need to set ambitious goals to encourage you to save money. For exampie, you plan

to have a formal dress in one year, to own a car in five years or to buy an apartment in twenty

years.

Second, stay away from those that waste money. Learn to keep a diary of how much you spend and what it is for. Planning a budget is important. Budget helps you to spend money wisely though the cost of living increases. So, how do you make a budget? There are numerous charts and software and all kinds of things that you can buy to help you. They're all fine, but all that you real-ly need is a notebook, a pencil and a small calculator. Just sit down and annotate everything that you spend money on in a month with these tools. Everything ! Think twice before using money on expensive skin care products. The best way to keep your skin in good condition is sufficient sleep .After you know exactly where your money is going, you can have chance to get rid of your bad consumption habit.

Following them your daily expense will be cut off easily, but still keep the quality of your life.

46. According to the passage, which way is the best to keep a balanced life?

[A] Have a formal dress in one year

[B] Own a car in two years' time

[C] Save money and have a plan to avoid waste

[D] Put down every penny we spend

"...We are not about to enter the Information Age, but instead are rather well into it." P
resent predictions are that by 1990, about thirty million jobs in the United States, or about thirty percent of the job market, will be computer-related. In 1980, only twenty-one percent of all American high schools owned one or two computers for student use. In the fall of 1985, a new study showed that half of United States secondary schools have fifteen or more computers for student use. And now educational experts, administrators, and even the general public are demanding that all students become" computer literate". By the year 2000 knowledge of computers will be necessary in over eighty percent of all occupations. Soon those people not educated in computer use will be compared to those who are print illiterate today.

What is "computer literacy"? The term itself seems to imply some degree of" knowing" about computers, but knowing what? The present opinion seems to be that this should include a general knowledge of what computers are, plus a little of their history and something of how they operate.

Therefore, it is important that educators everywhere take a careful look not only at what is being done, but also at what should be done in the field of computer education. Today most adults are able to use a motor car without the slightest knowledge of how the internalcombustion engine (内燃机) works. We effectively use all types of electrical equipment without being able to tell their histories or to explain how they work.

Business people for years have made good use of typewriters and adding machines, yet few have ever known how to repair them. Why, then, attempt to teach computers by teaching how or why they work?

Rather, we first must fix our mind on teaching the effective use of the computer as the tool is.

"Knowing how to use a computer is what's going to be important. We don't talk about 'auto- mobile literacy'. We just get in our cars and drive them."

The underlined part "print illiterate" in the text refers to ______.

A.one who has never learnt printing

B.one who has never learnt to read

C.one who is not computer literate

D.one who is not able to use a typewriter

?Read the text below, about qualification of a business person.

?In most of the lines 34-45,there is one extra word. it is either grammatically incorrect or not fit in with

?the meaning of the text. Some lines, however, are correct.

?If a line is correct, write CORRECT on you Answer Sheet.

?If there is an extra word in the line, write the extra word on your Answer Sheet.

Education or experience?

0 Recently there has been much debate done about what should qualify a person

00 for promotion in the business world. In the past, a new employee would

34 start by delivering the office mail. He would then work his way up the ladder,

35 gaining higher and more responsive positions, eventually leading to the management.

36 But with the rapid growth of getting business courses and qualifications there is

37 now another way many of people who aim for top management can miss out on the

38 'mail delivery' stages by studying for a period and gaining in one of the numerous

39 business qualifications now available.. There is some criticism of this accelerated

40 promotion. It is felt that it results in knowledge without also experience, and such

41 knowledge type is inevitably incomplete. On the other hand the growth in business

42 courses has led to much more highly skilled business practices. The answer seems

43 to be that both experience and qualifications have their value, but as it should not be forgotten

44 that experience is

45 a qualification in itself

M: Is it true that you don't swim at all now?

W: I'm afraid so, I'm too old.

M: But you are only twenty.

W: That's too old for a swimmer. If I swam in an international competition now, I wouldn't win. So I'd rather not swim at all.

M: But don't you enjoy swimming?

W: I used to, when I was small. But if you enter for big competitions you have to work very hard. I used to get up at 6 to go to the pool. I had to train before school, after school and on weekends. I swam thirty-five miles every week!

M: But you were so famous at fifteen. And look at all those cups.

W: It's true that I did have some wonderful memories. The Olympics were very exciting. But I missed some important things too. While other girls were playing, I was swimming.

What is the woman good at?

A. Swimming.

B. Running.

C. Playing.

&8226;Read the text below about the impotance of an internship.

&8226;Choose the best sentence from the opposite page to fill each of the gaps.

&8226;For each gap 9-14,mark one letter(A-H)on your Answer Sheet.

&8226;Do not use any Ietter more than once.

Is an internship really all that important?

In years past,it was more common for college students to take summer jobs at local retail outlets or restaurants just fo earn money, said John A.Challenger, chief executive of Challenger Gray & Christmas. But now an internship is seem as a votal first career step,he said.It can be extremely important as a way to determine which industries, companies and types of work are best for you,and as a way to secure future references and job offers.

Once starting an internship, make the most of it.Above all.be realistic. Some people approach internships with a sense of entitlement, said Mark Oldman, founder of Vault,a career Web site, and the author of several books on internships. He added.‘it's hard to go from a campus hot stuff to a corporate layman, and it's ridicuious when some interns want to come in and change everything.’ (9) .

If you feel clueless, use that to your advantage. (10) .Interns generally have more freedom than the average employee to pass across departments and hierarchies in search of help. They can gain valuable knowledge and mentors, because most people enjoy sharing their experience with a younger generation.

In general,Mr.Oldman said,‘It's important for an intern to quickly decode the culture of the company and not step outside that.’That extends to the way you dress,Mr.Challenger said.‘A lot of times when you’re younger you want to show how unique you are rather than identify with others,’he said. (11) .

In the opinion of Mr.Oldman, internships are an ideal way for employers to find out whether a new worker is suitable for a particular job. (12) .Therefore,as an intern, when you are asked to perform. tasks that are boring and unimportant, you shouldn't feel wronged by that. You should be willing to do such work because that shows you are a hard worker, said Mr.Oldman. (13) .‘Look for work, but do it gently or indirectly, and not too assertively,’Mr.Oldman added.‘do what's asked of you optimally and then offer your services for additional projects.’

Last but not least, there's something you can do to improve the chances that your internship will lead to a job offer. Before you leave,‘build a bridge to the future,’Mr.Oldman said.Go over what you learned with your managers.and tell them how much you appreciated the opportunity to work with them. (14) .That way, even if your internship does not lead to a job at that company,it will help clear a path to your eventual employer.

A.They enable employers to see who works hard, who gets along with everybody, who seems to fit Into their culture.

B.And ask whether your managers would be willing to write a letter of recommendation before you leave.

C.It is much more appropriate to approach the internship with a learning attitude,as suggested by Mr.Oldman.

D.Many interns don't attach sufficient importance to this

E.At the same time.be on the lookout for projects that will let you make good use of more advanced skills.

F.The power of curious interns can’t be overestimated.

G.In the workplace, however, you tend to be judged by your willingness to fit into the group's norms.

H.But now an internship is seen as a vital first career step,he said。

第10题

Do you often feel the quality of the goods we buy these days isn't as good as it ought to
be?

In the past, when things were made by hand, it seems there was a lot of pride in individual workmanship. People were really proud of things they made.

But now, of course, individuals don't make things. Most things are made on assembly lines and one person only has a very small part in putting something together so there isn't any workmanship any more.

A good example of this is a friend of mine, Mary. She bought a toaster last summer at a sale. She used it, I guess, pretty often, but she only had it a couple of months when suddenly the plastic base of the toaster cracked wide open, and at the same time the heating system in the toaster burned out.

She took it back to the store, but the clerk in the store said they wouldn't take it back, and they wouldn't give her money back, because she bought it on sale. So the only thing she could do was to buy a new one.

I'm sure Mary is more careful when she buys things now, and that's what we all have to be.

It can be learned from the passage that ______.

A.workmanship now can not be found as it was in the past

B.the toaster was broken because Mary used it too much

C.the quality of goods now isn't as good as it was

D.it is fair enough for the store not to give money back to Mary
