听力原文:W: Hi, Samuel, what are you doing here?
M: I'm waiting to see Professor Johnson. He asked me to have an interview today.
W: An interview? What kind of interview?
M: Well, I got the highest grades in his class last term, so he wanted me to work as his assistant next term, I do not have any idea about that job.
W: Don't worry about it. I did it one year ago.
M: Really? Can you tell me something about it? Did you like it?
W: Yes, I did.
M: What did you do?
W: I was in charge of grading all the assigned homework. I never had trouble doing it, and of course, Professor Johnson was always available to help me if I had any questions.
M: I think I'll enjoy doing that sort of work. It would be very good experience for anyone thinking about becoming a teacher.
W: Absolutely. You also learn how to use the computer, because all the records are kept on it. Improving your computer skills is a good preparation for lots of jobs.
M: But I'm a little worried about how much time it might take.
W: It's pretty reasonable. It never took me more than five hours a week to do all the grading and then another thirty to forty minutes to record the grades on the computer.
M: It sounds great.
W: Oh, yeah, you can also do the grading in your room or in the library. You just need to get each set back for the next class, but that means you always have at least two days, and sometimes four.
M: Thank you for telling me so much.
W: Good luck with your interview.

听力原文: The first English dictionary was published in 1604. The dictionary was a list of about 3,000 difficult words, each followed by a one-word definition. The author, Robert Cawdrey, did not include everyday words in his dictionary. He believed that no one would look up a word in a dictionary if he already knew the meaning of the word.
During the 1600s, more dictionaries were published. Each followed Cawdrey' s lead and presented a few thousand difficult words. Around 1,700, one dictionary maker, John Kersey, did define easy words as well as difficult ones. But until the1750s, ail dictionaries were not very valuable.
A man called Dr. Samuel Johnson changed all this. In 1755 Dr. Johnson produced the first modem dictionary. He included in his dictionary all important words, both easy and hard, and he gave good meanings. He also gave good example sentences in speech and writing. By the end of the 1700s most dictionary makers had followed Johnson' s lead. Dictionaries were getting better and better.
The 1800s saw the greatest improvement in the quality of dictionaries. In England scholars planned and prepared the Oxford English Dictionary, a twenty-volume work. One of the most interesting features of the Oxford Dictionary is its word histories. It traces the history of each word from its earliest recorded use up to the time of the printing of the dictionary.
