听力原文: Two businessmen were invited to dinner at the home of a college professor. One of the men did not have much education and was worried that he might make a fool of himself, but his friend said, "Don't worry. Just do what I do, and don't talk about anything that you don't really understand."

The first man managed to get through the dinner successfully, but by the end of the evening he had had a lot to drink, and began to get careless.

A guest asked him whether he liked Shakespeare, and he answered confidently, "It's very pleasant, but I prefer scotch. "There was an uncomfortable silence in the room, and soon people began to leave.

When the two friends were out of the house, the second man said to his friend, "You certainly made a fool of yourself making that silly remark about scotch."

"What do you mean?" asked the other man. "What was wrong With it?'

"Everybody knows that Shakespeare isn't a drink,' his friend replied "It's a kind of cheese."

听力原文: Top officials in city, state and the federal governments are elected to office by the people. They run for office every two or four years and elections are held in the first week of November. People who run for elections are called politicians. Many of them are lawyers. Successful politicians are often famous and important people in their communities. Young lawyers who are interested in politics, often join political clubs when they graduate from law schools. As club members, they help older politicians get elected. (33)The real purpose is when they have had enough experience and support, they run for office themselves. Before elections, political candidates always have a tight schedule. They have frequent meetings with their supporters and discuss details about their elections. (34)But most of their time is spent on campaigning, shaking hands and making speeches to the public. There are different groups of voters that politicians try to win support from. Most large cities have black and Spanish speaking communities who elect powerful politicians. Some politicians appeal to businessmen while other appeal to laborers. Many politicians run for office by taking sides on important issues, such as balancing government budget. Getting equal rights for women, fighting corruption and creating job opportunities. (35)Once politicians win elections, their futures depend on how well they do their jobs and how well the people hear of the work they are doing.

(34)

A.To help older politicians get elected.

B.To practice their law knowledge.

C.To prepare for their own future elections.

D.To find a job in the political club.

听力原文: Generally speaking, trade fairs offer the following advantages to exhibitors.

The first advantage is concentration. The most effective method to sell or to promote a product is face-to-face. A good trade fair combines the advantages of personal selling and advertising. It brings together large numbers of buyers in one place, and provides the opportunity to present a sales message face-to-face, and to answer questions.

The second advantage is product presentation. Trade fairs are often the most practical way for companies to actually show buyers their products, which can be important for closing a sale.

The third one is chances of assessing buyer's reaction. Trade fairs offer the opportunity for immediate "feed-back" from buyers or other members of the trade. The exhibitors can often find out immediately if his product is right for the market, or how it should be adapted to make it right.

The next advantage is audience interest. Businessmen visit trade fairs because they are interested in seeing what is on offer. They tend to be more receptive to approaches from prospective new suppliers than they often are when they are sitting in their offices, pressed for time.

Reaching the unknowns is another advantage of a trade fair. An important advantage of a trade fair is that they enable an exhibitor to meet people whom it would otherwise be difficult to meet.

There is also the advantage of viewing the competition. Major trade fairs count among their exhibitors most of the important companies in their respective fields. Therefore, one of the advantages of attending such fairs is being able to study the products and some of the marketing techniques of the companies which are already successful in the market.

The last advantage is group support. Usually, companies new to exporting, or to a particular export market, often feel more secure as part of a group of companies or trade associations than they would venturing into strange territory on their own. Because trade fairs, along with trade missions, are the primary means governments have for sponsoring group marketing activity, many companies find them a particularly attractive way to begin selling overseas.

? Look at the notes about advantages of trade fairs.

? Some information is missing.

? You will hear part of a presentation by the company's Marketing Manager.

? For each question 16-22, fill in the missing information in the numbered space using one or two words.

听力原文: Although America is a huge country, traveling is very quick and easy. The visitor who wants to see as much of the country as possible should travel by bus. That is, if he hasn't got a friend who owns a car. It's fun. There is fast bus service between cities. For example, the Greyhound bus service has the picture of a greyhound, a dog which can run very fast on the side of the bus. Some buses have an upper and a lower level. The roof is often made of glass and in the summer the heat of the sun through the glass makes it feel too hot. Although the buses are cooled by air conditioning, it does not always seem to work with such good effect on the top level. The seats are soft with a reading lamp over each one and they lean back for sleeping at night. On these long distance buses there is a toilet and other comfort on hoard.

Stops are made for meals at roadside restaurants and there is time to stretch your legs. It takes about three and a half days to cross America by bus with short stops for meals.

Flying is as simple as going by bus. There are two kinds of service: a regular service on which free meals are provided, and a stop over service where the plane stops over at various cities. Most cities have an airport. You can often buy your ticket and arrange your airplane trip all within about twenty minutes. Businessmen who are in a hurry do all their traveling by plane. The roads and highways are splendid, running straight for hundreds of miles. Some are free ways which means that there is no charge for using them or others called turnpikes the drivers have to pay. There are no crossroad or traffic lights. Other roads run either above or underneath the highways with roads leading up or down to them from either side.

(33)

A.You can sleep in it.

B.It's safer than trains.

C.It's fast and comfortable.

D.You can see more of the country.
