听力原文:Mrs. Brown was over eighty, but she still drove her old car like a woman half her

听力原文: Mrs. Brown was over eighty, but she still drove her old car like a woman half her age. She loved driving very fast and boasted of the fact that she had never, in her thirty-five years of' driving, been punished for a driving offence.

Then one day she nearly lost her record. A police car followed her, and the policeman in it saw her pass a red light without stopping.

When Mrs. Brown came before the judge, he looked at her severely and said that she was too old to drive a car, and that the reason why she had not stopped at the red light was most probably that her eyes had become weak with old age, so that she had simply not seen it.

When the judge had finished what he was saying, Mrs. Brown opened the big handbag she was carrying and took out her sewing. Without saying a word, she chose a needle with a very small eye, and threaded it at her first attempt.

When she had successfully done this, she took the thread out of the needle again and handed both the needle and the thread to the judge, saying, "Now it is your turn. I suppose you drive a car, trod that you have no doubt about your own eyesight."

The judge took the needle and tried to thread it.. After half a dozen attempts, he had still not succeeded. The case against Mrs. Brown was dismissed and her record remained unbroken.

(33)

A.She broke her record.

B.She didn't stop at a red light.

C.She saw an accident.

D.She stopped at a red light.

听力原文:A(man): Hi, Mice. I hear that you are planning to have a dog in your house. Is that true?

B(woman): Yeah. But I am not so sure now. I'd love to have one because I think dogs are good companions.

A: Sure. I think most people have had a dog or wanted one as their companion at some time in their byes. If you are thinking of buying a dog, you should first decide what sort of companion you need and whether the dog is likely to be happy in the surroundings you can provide.

B: So. What's you advice?

A: Specialist advice is available to help you choose the most suitable breed of dog. But in part, the decision depends on common sense. Most breeds were originally developed to perform. specific tasks. So, if you want a dog to protect you or your house, for example, you should choose a breed that has the right size and characteristics.

B: I have not decided yet, you know. I just thought dogs are lovely and they will do things you want them to do.

A: That's half true. You must be ready to devote a good deal of time to train the dog when it is young and give it the exercise it needs throughout its life. Dogs are demanding pets. The best time to buy a baby-dog is when it is between 6 and 8 weeks old so that it can transfer its affection from its mother to its master. If baby dogs have not established a relationship with the human being until they are over three months old, their strong relationship will always be with dogs. They are likely to be too shy when they are brought out into the world to become good pets.

B: Thank you so much for bring such valuable advice, Tom. I think I am readier than before to have my own dog now.

Why does the woman want to have a dog?

A.Because she is lonely.

B.Because she loves to protect a pet.

C.Because she thinks dogs are good companions.

D.Because she just lost one dog.

听力原文: I have been an airline stewardess for six years. I'm twenty-six years old and recently got married. The majority of the airline stewardesses are from small towns. I myself am from Nebraska. It's supposed to be one of the nicest professions for a woman -- if she can't be a model or in the movies. You can fly around the world, meeting all those people. It is pretty nice doing so.

I have five older sisters and they were all married before they were twenty. The minute they got out of high school, they would end up getting married, that was the thing everybody did. It was to get married. They were so happy that one of the girls could go out and see the world and spend some time being single. I didn't get married until I was almost twenty-five. My mother especially thought it was great that I had the chance to travel around the world.

How old was the narrator when he became a stewardess(空姐)?

A.Twenty.

B.Twenty six.

C.Not told.

听力原文:M: Is it true that you don't swim at all now?

W: I'm afraid so, I'm too old.

M: But you are only twenty.

W: That's too old for a swimmer. If I swam in an international competition now, I wouldn't win. So I'd rather not swim at all.

M: But don't you enjoy swimming?

W: I used to, when I was small. But if you enter for big competitions you have to work very hard. I used to get up at 6 to go to the pool. I had to train before school, after school and on weekends. I swam thirty-five miles every week!

M: But you were so famous at fifteen. And look at all those cups.

W: It's true that I did have some wonderful memories. The Olympics were very exciting. But I missed some important things too. While other girls were playing, I was swimming.

What is the woman good at?

A.Swimming.

B.Running.

C.Playing.

听力原文:M: Say, Lisa, what show are you watching?

W: An old Japanese film. I figure if I'm going to spend all next year there, I'd better start familiarizing myself with the culture.

M: You mean you were accepted into the program?

W: Sure.

M: That's wonderful. You must be excited.

W: Excited and nervous. You know I owe a lot to Professor Mercheno. He wrote a letter of recommendation for me and he bought me a set of practice tapes and a book that goes with them just so I can work on my basic conversation skills.

M: How much Japanese can you understand?

W: Not a lot right now. But I signed up for intensive Japanese this semester.

M: I wish I were as talented as you are in foreign languages. I'd love to study abroad.

W: Then why don't you? The university has lots of overseas programs that don't require mastery of a foreign language. The tuition is about the same. You just have to be the kind of person who is receptive to new ways of looking at things and willing to adapt to a different kind of lifestyle.

M: I had assumed that all programs require you to know a foreign language. I might check into this.

W: You won't regret it.

Questions 19 to 22 are based on the conversation you have just heard.

19. What is the woman doing when the man interrupts her?

20. Why is the woman so excited?

21. Why does the woman feel grateful to Professor Mercheno?

22. What does the woman say one needs to have in order to study in a program like hers?

(23)

A.Writing a memo.

B.Watching a film.

C.Taping some music.

D.Making a video recording.
