A 4 year Kid, who does not know what an Email or a Chat App is, prays to God: “Hey, Lo

rd, Please make me a smartphone”. This young kid is asking such a wish from God, because he sees that his parents at home are completely glued to this magical device called smartphone and has no time to look up at him. The smartphone is getting more attention in the house than the child. His parents are present there physically, but their minds are somewhere else. It’s so true that this device has become an inseparable part of our day to day life, and we are addicted to it. We will start feeling restless if we do not look to our phone after a few minutes. We react faster to a phone beep or a message compared to a call by a family member from a different room. We all need to come out of this head-down syndrome. We all need to connect and communicate in real world. We need to put this technology to good use and not become a slave. So what shall we do? It’s simple: the solution is called “digital break”. This means, when you return home from work, you simply turn off or mute all your digital devices for a few hours every day, or at least once in a while. What do you do then? You can share your time with the family, chatting with your wife or husband, playing games with your kids, doing things with other family members, etc. in real life. You will soon realize the world outside the smartphone is much more enjoyable

1.The kid is 5 years old.()

2.The kid asked God for a smartphone.()

3.Smartphones have become an inseparable part of our daily life.()

4.We all need to connect and communicate in virtual world.()

5.The only solution to the head-down syndrome is called “digital break.()

听力原文: Some students at the Open University left school 20 years ago. Others are younger but all must be at least 21 years old. This is one example of how the Open University is different from all other universities. Its students must either work full-time or be at home all day, for instance, mothers of families. They do not have to pass any examinations before they are accepted as students. This is why the university is called "open". The university vas started in order to help a known group—people who missed having a university education when they were young.

The first name for the Open University was "The University of the Air". The idea was to teach "on the air", in other words, on radio and television. Most of the teaching is done like this. Radio and television have brought the classroom into people's homes. But this, on its own, is not enough for a university education. The Open University student also received advice at one of the 283 study centers in the country. In 36 weeks of the year he has to send written work to a "tutor", the person who guides his studies. He must also spend 3 weeks every summer as a full-time student. Tutors and students meet and study together, as in other universities. At the end of the Open University's first year, the results were good. Three out of every 4 students passed their examinations. If they do this every year, they will finish their studies in 4 or 5 years.

(33)

A.Because it isn't closed.

B.Because its door is open.

C.Because the students have to pass all examinations before entering it.

D.Because there is no examination before they are accepted as students.

第三篇 Eat Healthy

"Clean your plate! " and "Be a member of the clean-plateclub! " Just about every kid in the UShas heard this from a parent orgrandparent. Often, it's accompanied by an appeal: "Just think aboutthosestarving orphans in Africa!" Sure, weshould be grateful for every bite of food. Unfortunately, many people in theUStake toomany bites. Instead of staying "clean the plate", perhaps weshouldsave some food for tomorrow.

According to news reports, US restaurants are partly to blame for thegrowing beUies. A waiterputs a plate of food in front of each customer, withtwo to four times the amount recomme.nded by thegovernment, according to a USAToday story. Americans traditionally associate quantity with valueand mostrestaurants try to give them that. They prefer to have customers complain abouttoo muchfood rather than too little.

BarbaraRolls, a nutrition professor at Pennsylvani'a State University, told USA Todaythat res-taurant portion sizes began to grow in the 1970s, the same time thatthe American waistline began toexpand.

Healthexperts have tried to get many restaurants to serve smaller portions. Now,apparently, some cus-tomers are calling for this too. The restaurant industrytrade magazine QSR reported last month that 57 per-cent of more than 4, 000people surveyed beljeve restaurants serve portions that are too large; 23percent had no opinion; 20 percent disagreed. But a closer look at the surveyindicates that many Americans who can't af-ford fine dining still prefer largeportions. 70 percent of those earning at least $ 150, 000 per year prefersmal-ler portions; but only 45 percent of those earning less than $ 25, 000want smaller.

It'snot that working class Americans don't want to eat healthy. It's just that,"after long hours at low-paying jobs, getting less on their plate hardlyseems like a good deal. They live from paycheck topaycheck, happy to save alittle money for next year's Christmas presents.

听力原文: What kind of car we will drive by the year 2020? Rather different from the type
we know today. With the next decade bringing greater change than the past 50 years, people who will design the models of tomorrow believe that environmental problems may well accelerate the pace of the car's development. The vision is that of a machine with 3 wheels instead of 4, electrically-powered, environmentally clean and able to drive itself along intelligent roads, e quipped with built-in power supplies. Future cars will pick up the fuel during long journeys from a power source built into the, road, or stored in small quantities for traveling in the city. Instead of today's seating arrangement two in front, two or three behind, all facing forward, the 2020 car will have an interior with adults and children in a family circle. This view of future car is based on a much more sophisticated road system. Cars will be automatically controlled by a computer. All the driver will have to do is to say where to go and the computer will do the rest. It will become impossible for cars to crash into one another. The technology already exists for the car to become a true automobile.

What is the designer's vision of the cars of tomorrow?

A.They will be much bigger.

B.They will have more seats.

C.They will have three wheels.

D.They will need intelligent drivers.
