People who love music, who can lose themselves in a book, or who can spend hours painting
a picture of a mountain, know the deep satisfaction that can be found in art. It is not easy to express this satisfaction in words. But, in some partly mysterious (神秘的) way, works of art are among the things of highest value in our lives.

A fine piece of music, a masterpiece of painting, or a first-class play has the power to hold our fullest attention. We are completely lost in it, and everything works out right. The music comes to the right close at the right time and in the right way. The play ends, not necessarily on a happy note, but in a way that seems enjoyable. As we get to know more about painting, its parts seem to belong together and to be made for one another. We see harmony (和谐) in the object and feel harmony within ourselves.

When the beautiful experience has ended, we often feel uplifted and refreshed. Our eyes and ears, or our understanding of other persons and values, may be sharpened and improved. We may feel more at home with ourselves. Works of art have value for us in some such ways as these.

It is this value that marks the difference between great art and simple entertainment(娱乐). A work that is fairly easy to understand takes little effort on our part. It may give us pleasure, but it does not touch our feelings or attract out attention at a deep level.

What is the main idea of the text?

A.Music has a power to catch all our attention.

B.Art of high values can improve us as human beings.

C.It's difficult to express our satisfaction from works of art.

D.Simple entertainment is easy to understand and can give us pleasure.

Dramatic Peak District, with its genuine steep fells, never fails to astonish me. A car will【C1】______you all round the Peak District【C2】______a morning. It is nothing【C3】______a crumpled green handkerchief.【C4】______, we hear of search parties going out there to find【C5】______travelers. I have never explored this region properly, and so it remains to me a country of【C6】______. I could go on with this list of surprises, but perhaps you had better make your own.

Another【C7】______of our landscape is its exquisite moderation. It has been born of a compromise【C8】______wildness and tameness, between Nature and Man. One【C9】______for this is that it contains that exquisite【C10】______between Nature and Man. The fence and the gate are man-made, but are not severely regular and trim【C11】______they would be in some other countries. The trees and hedges, the grass and【C12】______flowers, all suggest that Nature has not been forced【C13】______obedience. The irregularity and coloring of the cottage make it【C14】______snugly into the landscape, and you feel it might have grown there, because it looks nearly as much a piece of natural history as the trees. In some countries, the cottage would have declared, "Man, the drainer, the tiller, the builder, has settled here. " In this English【C15】______there is no such direct opposition. Men and trees and flowers, we feel, have all settled down comfortably together. The motto is, "Live and let live. " This exquisite【C16】______between Nature and Man explains in part the charm of the older Britain. The whole town fitted snugly into the landscape,【C17】______they were no more than bits of woodland; and roads went【C18】______the easiest way as【C19】______as rivers. It was impossible to say where cultivation ended and wild life began. It was a country rich【C20】______trees, birds, and wild flowers, as we can see to this day.

&8226;Read the text below about time management.

&8226;In most of the lines (41-52) there is one extra word. It is either grammatically incorrect or does not fit in with the sense of the text. Some lines, however, are correct.

&8226;If a line is correct, write CORRECT on your Answer Sheet.

&8226;If there is an extra word in the line, write the extra word in CAPITAL LETTERS on your Answer Sheet.

EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT

All too often, work seems like to take over a disproportionate part of our lives, with the result that we are not able to see our friends or families as often as

41 we would like and we have little time for relaxation. Although one of the

42 consequences of poor time management for many of us is that it tips over our

43 lives out of balance so that we don't pay enough attention to the things that

44 are really important to achieve them. But the paradox is that when work

45 dominates on the horizon to such an overwhelming extent, we are probably

46 being neither as efficient nor as effective at work as we could be with a

47 better organised lifestyle. If we constantly feel under the pressure and are

48 always rushing to meet deadlines, we should take up a look at the way we

49 are organising our work. We all have limits on the amount of time and within

50 which we can do a good job; it's more important to make use that time well than

51 to work more hours. There are various techniques, such as delegating to each

52 others and by reducing interruptions, that are commonly used for managing time, and when we put these into practice, we will soon notice the difference.

回答题

Text 3

We feel it is important to start reading to your child right from the start——the younger the better! With little ones (children from birth to 4 ) it is very important to read and reread books. Starting early makes the job of the listener (for you will be teaching your child how to listen) easier, as it helps to develop an early love of the written and spoken word.

We believe that you should read aloud to your child at least once every day. Set a special reading time during the day or evening when you can settle down and enjoy a book, without interruption. For most families, reading aloud at bedtime is a common practice.

We understand that it can be quite discouraging to read to a child who takes no interest. Take heart! Learning to listen takes experience. The more you read, the more your child will learn to sit for a story. Children have a natural development of responses(反应) to your reading. By the time your child reaches 6-7 months, s/he is attracted by the book in your hand, and would like to test it out by using it as a chew(咀嚼) toy. This is natural! By one year, your child is learning to listen and talk about the pages, often shouting out things s/he recognizes. Encourage this! And at the onset(起始) of walking, you have your biggest challenge yet. Your child is always on the go. You need to set your reading time for a time in the day when your child is preparing to settle down. This means bedtime. Remember, it is your right anD.duty to teach your child about the power of, books. Of course, it doesn"t happen overnight, but the returns are great!

Who does "the listener" in the first paragraph refer to? 查看材料

A.The writer.

B.The child.

C.The parent.

D.The teacher.

根据下列文章,请回答 21~25 题。

Text 1

Mistakes are the things that nobody wants, but we still make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. Some are about work or jobs. But most mistakes are about people."Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen? When I got that great job, did Jim really feel good about it as a friend? Or did he envy my luck? And why didn't Andy pick up that I was friendly just because 1 had a car?" When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad. But when we look back, it's too late.

Why do we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. We need to listen and think for some time. And if we don't really listen we miss the feeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you, "You’re a lucky dog" that's being friendly. But "lucky dog"? There's a bit of envy in those words. Maybe he doesn't see it himself. But bringing in the " dog"- bit puts you down a little. What he may be saying is that he doesn't think you deserve your luck.

"Just think of all the things you have to be thankful for" is another noise that says one thing and means another. It could mean that the speaker is trying to get you to see your problem as part of your life as a whole. But is he? Wrapped up in this phrase is the thought that your problem isn't important. It's telling you to think of all the starving people in the world when you haven't got a date for Saturday night.

How can you tell the real meaning behind someone's words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says agree with the tone of voice? His posture? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you may save another mistake.

第 21 题 This passage is mainly about__________.

A.how to interpret what people say

B.what to do when you listen to others talking

C.how to avoid mistakes when you communicate with people

D.why we go wrong with people sometimes
