听力原文:W: Hi! Did you watch that documentary on TV last night?

M: No, I was in a meeting, and unable to go home early. What was it about?

W: It was about insects.

M: Insects?

W: Yes. Do you know? They are the most successful creatures on the earth.

M: What, more successful than humans?

W: Yeah. Because they were around long before people were, and there are far more insects than there are humans. What’s more, they are reproducing all the time.

M: Well, I suppose that’s true.

W: And they are incredibly adaptable.

M: In what way?

W: Well, take mosquitoes for example. You know, the things that spread the disease. What troubles us is that every time we try to wipe out the mosquitoes with some new insecticide, they change their body chemistry.

M: Haven’t they just brought out a new medicine to fight the disease?

W: Yes, they have. But I bet that within five years they’ll be looking for a new one! The mosquitoes will simply adapt again!

M: I think it keeps scientists employed!

W: I guess so.

(23)

A.He was watching the documentary on TV.

B.He was attending a party.

C.He was watching a movie.

D.He was attending a meeting.

听力原文:W: Look, I'm sorry, but the books for Chemistry 100 aren't in yet.

M: Why not? School started last week.

W: I really don't know. Maybe the professor ordered them late, or the publisher ran out of then and they are on back order.

M: This is awful. I'm worried about this course anyway. I didn't do that well in chemistry in high school.

W: I know what you mean. Did you check the used book section?

M: Yes. No luck there.

W: Okay. Look, why don't you go over to the library? I'll bet that the professor put at least one copy on reserve.

M: Do you think so? That would he great. At least I could make copies of the pages that I need until the books come in. Oh, wait. If there's only one copy, everyone will be trying to do that.

W: True, well, we do have a bulletin heard. You could put a notice up that you are looking for a book for Chemistry 100, and maybe someone who has it will want to sell it directly to you. Do you have a phone in the dorm?

M: Yeah. I'll just put my name and phone number on the notice. That's a great idea! Where's the bulletin board?

W: By the T-shirts and clothing near the front door. Oh, and he sure to put down the exact title of the hook, too, because they don't always use the same one.

听力原文: Hello, I'll be your tour guide today here at the art museum so I'd like to welcome you m this month's exhibit on native American pottery. We'll begin our tour in a few minutes. But first I'm going to tell you something about the way this pottery was created. Pottery was made all over ancient North America by many different groups of people. One of the earliest of these ancient American cultures was the Hohokam people. They lived in what is now Arizona from about 300 BC to 1500 AD. And it's their pottery that you will be looking at today. All of the pottery was made from clay. Some objects were for everyday use, like con miners for food and water: pots for cooking, and mugs, bowls and ladles for drinking and eating. You will also sec finger rings and animalshaped incense burners, which we believe were probably used in special rituals. The Hohokam formed their pottery vessels from coils of clay. They then shaped them with special tools to create very thin sides on the vessels. Afterwards they painted the pottery with red designs. Actually many of the pieces here have designs right on them that show how the pottery was used. Now I hope you'll enjoy the beauty and the uniqueness of the Hohokam pottery and this will give you some interesting insight about the people who created it. Please feel free to ask me any questions and thank you for joining us today.

听力原文:W: Let's do something! Why don't we go out for dinner or go dancing.

M: I'm watching TV.

W: You're always watching TV. Stop being such a couch potato! Get up and let's do something.

M: I am doing something. I’ m watching TV.

W: You're always watching some stupid sitcom. It's a waste of time, and a waste of brain power.

M: Sometimes it's nice just to kick back, relax and laugh a little. There is nothing wrong with a little comedy in one's life. In fact, that's why I'm here.

W: Ha, ha! Very funny!

M: Besides, I am watching something serious.

W: What? I bet it's some ridiculous drama with perfect looking people complaining about the tribulations of daily life.

M: Nope, wrong again.

W: Then it must be a prime-time news program describing how some woman went crazy and killed her husband.

M: No, I watched that last night. You had better guess quickly--the commercials are almost over.

W: Is it a murder mystery? Or some science fiction show like Star Trek?

M: No.

W: A game show where they test your knowledge of useless trivia?

M: No, it's a documentary on dolphins in the Caribbean.

W: Hey, that sounds interesting!

M: Why don't we make some popcorn, and then watch the rest of it together.

(20)

A.Because it's a way of relaxing himself.

B.Because he has nothing else to do.

C.Because sitcom is very funny.

D.Because watching TV is his favorite activity.

听力原文:M: What do you plan to do for Christmas?

W: No concrete plan, but I think I'll most likely go skiing in Montana and spend a few days in the mountains doing cross-country skiing.

M: I heard you are very good at skiing. Believe it or not, I haven't done any skiing in my life. I wish I could ski just like you.

W: Yeah, you could if you gave it a shot. You know, skiing is my love and the only reason I like it so much is because it gives me great pleasure to speed through the snow.

M: My parents and I vacationed in Montana National Park when I was little and I remembered we had great time going hiking. Now I feel like going back again.

W: Well, since we have two weeks' break for Christmas, you can spend a few days in Montana and I can give you lessons on skiing. That would give you some basics and hopefully you can ski like a professional in a few days.

M: Ski like a professional? No way. Actually, you do have a good point. I could spend some time in Montana and head back home for Christmas. Perhaps you could spend Christmas at my place too. My parents would like to meet you.

W: That would be great, since my folks will be in Jamaica for Christmas and New Year.

M: Oh, I am anxious to learn how to ski.

W: And you can bet I will be a very strict instructor.

M: No problem. I have been known to be an excellent student during my school year.

W: Well, maybe you won't be this time.

M: Really? I am looking forward to it now.

W: OK. Then, let's wait and see.

(4)

A.The pleasure of skiing.

B.The Montana National Park.

C.How to learn to ski.
