w the art of apologizing. Look back with honesty and think how often you've judged roughly, said unkind things; pushed yourself ahead at the expense of a friend. Then count the occasions when you indicated clearly and truly that you were sorry. A bit frightening, isn't it? Frightening because some deep wisdom in us knows that whenever a small wrong has been committed, some mysterious moral feeling is disturbed; and it stays out of balance until fault is acknowledged and regret expressed.

I remember a doctor friend, the late Clarence Libel, telling me about a man who came to him with a variety of signs: headaches, insomnia and stomach trouble. No physical cause could be found. Finally Dr. Libel said to the man, "Unless you tell me what's worrying you, I can't help you."

After some hesitation, the man confessed that as executor of his father's will, he had been cheating his brother, who lived abroad, of his inheritance. Then and there the wise old doctor made the man write to his brother asking forgiveness and enclosing a cheque as the first step in restoring their good relation. He then went with him to the mailbox in the corridor. As the letter disappeared, the man burst into tears. "Thank you! I think I'm cured." And he was

When we have done something wrong, we should

A.look honest and think over the fault carefully.

B.escape from being disturbed.

C.admit the fault and express the regret.

D.forgive ourselves.

第二篇

Have you ever suddenly felt that someone you know was in trouble-and he was? Have you ever dreamed something that came true later? Maybe you have ESP(超感官知觉).

ESP stands for Extra Sensory Perception. It may be called a sixth sense. It seems to let people know about events before they happen, or events that are happening some distance away.

Here is an example: A woman was doing washing. Suddenly she screamed. "My father is dead! I saw him sitting in the chair!' Just then, a telegram came. The woman's father had died of a heart attack. He died sitting in a chair.

There are thousands of stories like this on record. Scientists are studying them to find out what is behind these strange mental messages. Here's another example--one of hundreds of dreams that have come true.

A man dreamed he was walking along a road when a horse and carriage came by. The driver said, "There's room for one more." The man felt the driver was Death, so he ran away. The next day the man was getting on a crowded bus. The bus driver said, "There's room for one more." Then the man saw the driver's face was the same face he had seen in the dream. He wouldn't get on the bus. As the bus drove off, it crashed and burst into flames. Everyone was killed!

Some people say stories like these are lies or coincidences. Others, including some scientists say that ESP is true. From studies of ESP, we may some day learn more about the human mind.

ESP lets people know about

A. their dreams

B. events after they happen

C. events before they happen

D. heart attacks

A superstar usually is someone who has become famous in sports, or films, or popular music
, someone like the famous singer Michael Jackson.

One of the most famous sports superstars in the United States was the boxer, Muhammad Ali. As a young man, he won a gold medal in the Olympics as a boxer. Then he became the heavy weight boxing champion of the world. Before long, he was known as one of the greatest boxers in sports history. Once Ali said when he was a champion he was more famous than the president of the United States or the head of any other country in the world.

The word "super" means something that is good, and of course, a star is a person who is famous. So people use "superstar" to describe the top people in sports, films or music. Superstars are loved by millions of people today, but often forgotten tomorrow.

Michael Jackson is famous for his______ but Muhammad Ali for his______.

A.films; heavy weight

B.basketball; Olympic record

C.songs; heavy weight boxing

D.voice; Olympic record
