听力原文: Good morning. Let me go ahead with our presentation on the company's sales records for the past year. As you see here from this chart, last year's sales figures have been fairly high, except for August, September, and October. This indicates that there is a great need for us to come up with a new fall product line that satisfies consumers to offset the loss we encountered last year. Our view is that, unlike other seasons, fall lacks any unique characteristics in terms of our clothing line.
We are currently receiving ideas from every department on new items for this fall, but regrettably, none of them have proved to be satisfactory. However, we still recommend that people contribute any views to us, and anyone whose idea is chosen will be rewarded with a bonus. We sense that other companies are experiencing the same kind of problem we have, and I personally think we have to take advantage of this opportunity to dominate the market.
How will the company overcome the decline in sales?
A.Develop new items to sell.
B.Advertise the items more aggressively.
C.Downsize the company.
D.Use ideas from consumers.

One Good Reason to Let Smallpox Live
It's now a fair bet that we will never see the total extinction (灭绝) of the smallpox (天花) virus. When smallpox was completely got rid of in the world, scientists wanted to (51) the killer virus in the last two labs - one in the US and one in Russia. They asked: If smallpox has truly gone from the planet, (52) point was therein keeping these reserves?
in reality, of course, it was naive to (53) that everyone would let go of such a powerful potential weapon.Undoubtedly several nations still have (54) vials (小药瓶). And the last "official" stocks of live virus bred mistrust of the US and Russia, (55) no obvious gain.
Now American researchers have (56) an animal model of the human disease, opening the (57) for tests on new treatments and vaccines (疫苗). So once again there's a good reason to (58) the virus -just in (59) the disease puts in a reappearance.
How do we (60) with the mistrust of the US and Russia? (61) . Keep the virus (62) international support in a well-guarded UN laboratory that's open to all countries. The President: Let me answer the knowledge economy(经济)question first. And let me answer by telling you what I have tried to do in the United States. I have tried to produce a situation in America in which the doors of universities and colleges are open to every young person who has sufficient academic achievement(足够的文化程度)to get in, that there are no financial burdens(经济负担)of any kind. And we have not completely achieved it. But have made a great deal of progress.
Now, why would I do that? Because I believe that the more advanced an economy becomes, the more important it is to have a higher and, higher percentage of people with a university education. Let me tell you how important it is in the United States. We count our people-- every ten years we do a census and we count the number of the American people and we get all kinds of information on them. In the 1990 Census, younger Americans who had a college degree were very likely to get good jobs and have their incomes grow. Younger Americans who didn't go to university at all were likely to get jobs where their incomes went down and were much more likely to be unemployed.
And the more advanced China's economy becomes, the more that will be true of China—the more you will need very large number of people getting university education and technical education.
The answer was probably given by ______.
A.the US President visiting China
B.the Chinese President visiting the United States
C.the US President at an international conference
D.the US President visiting Japan
