听力原文:W: Hello. Mr. Summerfield. How are you today?

M: Very well. Thank you, Ms. Green.

W: What can I do for you?

M: Well, unfortunately, there is a problem with the order we received from you yesterday. It seems we've not received the right quantity of manuals to support the telephone system.

W: Oh, dear, that's bad news. I'm very sorry to hear that, and you don't know how many packs are without manuals?

M:No, because we haven't opened every pack. But in several of those that have been opened there are none, no manuals.

W: I'm very sorry about this inconvenience, Mr. Summerfield. We'll send out the manuals this afternoon by express mail entirely at our cost, and the manuals should arrive tomorrow or the day after at the latest.

M: All of them, right?

W: Yes. It maybe that some have them already, but we cannot be sure. So the best thing is to send out the manual for every pack.

M: Yes. Yes, I see. That would be great.

W: Please accept our apologies for this mix-up. I assure you we will do everything possible to find out why the mistake happened.

M: Right. Thanks for your swift action.

W: Not at all. Thank you and goodbye for now. Do call if there is anything else.

M: All right. Thank you. Goodbye, Ms. Green.

A 4 year Kid, who does not know what an Email or a Chat App is, prays to God: “Hey, Lo
rd, Please make me a smartphone”. This young kid is asking such a wish from God, because he sees that his parents at home are completely glued to this magical device called smartphone and has no time to look up at him. The smartphone is getting more attention in the house than the child. His parents are present there physically, but their minds are somewhere else. It’s so true that this device has become an inseparable part of our day to day life, and we are addicted to it. We will start feeling restless if we do not look to our phone after a few minutes. We react faster to a phone beep or a message compared to a call by a family member from a different room. We all need to come out of this head-down syndrome. We all need to connect and communicate in real world. We need to put this technology to good use and not become a slave. So what shall we do? It’s simple: the solution is called “digital break”. This means, when you return home from work, you simply turn off or mute all your digital devices for a few hours every day, or at least once in a while. What do you do then? You can share your time with the family, chatting with your wife or husband, playing games with your kids, doing things with other family members, etc. in real life. You will soon realize the world outside the smartphone is much more enjoyable

听力原文: It is logical to suppose that things like good labor relations, good working conditions, good wages and benefits, and job security motivate workers. But one expert, Frederick Herzberg argued that such conditions do not motivate workers, they are merely satisfiers. Motivators, in contrast, include things such as having a challenging and interesting job, recognition and responsibility. However, even with the development of computers and robotics, there are always plenty of boring, repetitive and mechanical jobs, and lots of unskilled people who have to do them. So how do managers motivate people in such jobs? One solution is to give them some responsibilities, not as individuals, but as part of a team. For example, some supermarkets combine office staff, the people who fill the shelves, and the people who work at the checkout into a team. And let them decide what product lines to stock, how to display them, and so on. Many people now talk about the importance of a company shared values or culture, with which all the staff can identify. For example, being the best hotel chain, or making the .best, the most user friendly, or the most reliable products in a particular field. Such values are more likely to motivate workers than financial targets, which ultimately only concern a few people. Unfortunately, there is only a limited number of such goals to go around. And by definition, not all the competing companies in an industry can seriously play in to be the best.

Questions:

What can actually motivate workers according to Frederick Herzberg?

What does the speaker say about jobs in the computer era?

What do some supermarkets do to motivate their employees?

Why does the speaker say financial targets are less likely to motivate workers?

(33)

A.Job security.

B.Good labour relations.

C.Challenging work.

D.Attractive wages and benefits.

听力原文:W: Good morning, Dr. Smith. I'm not sure whether you can help me or not, but I'm
getting desperate!

M: Oh, what's wrong? What is making you so desperate?

W: Well, everybody laughs at me because I'm so fat. I've always been overweight. I'm trying to eat less but I don't seem to be able to lose any weight. I don't know what I can do. Maybe you can give me some medication?

M: Well, it is not a good idea to eat less. You should eat more healthy food like fruits and vegetables, and avoid fast food like hamburgers and hot dogs.

W: But hamburgers and hot dogs are my favorite.

M: That's the problem. They contain high calories that cause fatness. In addition to avoiding these high-calorie foods, you should do some exercises. Physical exercise does a lot of good to health and will be an effective way to reduce weight. Medicine is not always the best solution to your problem.

W: I know, but I don't have time to do exercise. You know, I'm busy at my work from morning to night. Besides, I am not rich enough to go to the gym.

M: You needn't spend much time on exercise and you don't have to go to the gym. I suggest that you walk more regularly. You could get off the bus one stop early and walk the last bit. When you walk, try to walk a little more quickly. You could also use the stairs instead of the elevator.

W: That's really a good idea.

M: You will succeed if you act in accordance with my suggestions.

Questions 23 to 25 are based on the conversation you have just heard.

23. Why does the woman feel desperate?

24. What docs the man advise the woman not to do?

B.She eats less but remains overweight.

C.She doesn't eat fast foods but remains overweight.

D.She doesn't know whether the doctor can help her.
