听力原文: When people have enough B vitamins, their appetite is good and their nerves are calm. B vitamins in the diet come from some meats and vegetables, milk, cottage cheese, and whole grains.

When a grain is processed, it loses vitamins. For example, there is a big difference between white and brown rice. When rice is processed, the brown outside is lost. The brown outside of rice has an important B vitamin which white rice lacks. In short, brown rice has more B vitamins than processed rice.

Vitamin C keeps the cells of the body together. It helps skin tissue recover from cuts and bums. Vitamin C in the diet comes from tomatoes, fruits like lemons and oranges, and some vegetables such as cabbage and green peppers.

Vitamin D is called the "sunshine" vitamin. When people sit outside, ultraviolet rays from the sun change fat in their skin to vita- min D. Vitamin D disease in children are called rickets. Rickets is more common in countries that have long winters with little sun- shine.

听力原文: I am writing to thank you for the interesting reports which appeared in the July '94 edition of Saturday Evening Post. I am interested in your reports since B12 deficiency is an inherited disorder in my family. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, a research project was carried out on it by London medical school.

My grandmother was 49 when she started vitamin t312 injections in 1949, She was admitted to the hospital with a blood disease. My mother was 63 when she began vitamin B12 injections. After reading your article, I believe her treatment was started too late. At the time, she almost lost her eyesight and was told that she had another diseases.

I was told I was much too young and that only people in their 80s suffered B12 deficiency. I told him he was wrong and that research was carried out on my family 30 years ago.

I have always believed that prevention is better than cure. I now know why I love Kellogg's Honey Nut Cornflakes. They contain vitamins, including B12! If foods contain added vitamins, as

听力原文: In the summer, most people tend to lose weight only to see it return in the winter. This temporary weight loss affects the metabolism for most people in a negative way since it has been clinically proven that a steady, level metabolism rate is preferred to one that fluctuates up and down over different seasons of the year. Therefore, in order to maintain this steady weight loss, a new product has surfaced on the market in the form. of a regulating wristwatch. Now you may think to yourself, there are plenty of weight watching wristwatches available in the market today. What makes this product different from any other? Unlike most conventional weight regulation wristwatches, this watch tells you when you are burning the most calories in your day and what chemicals your body is most deficient in. 听力原文: On Thanksgiving Day, Americans will eat turkeys. Some of the birds will be fried in oil or heated over hot coals. Most will be cooked in the oven.

Most farm-raised turkeys grow quickly. In 14 weeks, a female turkey weighs 7 kilograms and is ready for market. Hens are usually sold as whole birds. Male turkeys are usually grown for 18 weeks. They weigh more than 14 kilograms.

Some farms have started to raise what are called heritage turkeys. These more traditional kinds of birds take longer to raise and require more care. Some can be ordered over the Internet. The meat is at least four times the cost of other turkeys. Often, heritage turkeys are raised on organic farms, where no chemicals are used.

Two-thirds of the cost to raise a turkey is spent on load. Farmed turkeys cat a mixture d corn and soybean with added vitamins and minerals. It takes about 36 kilograms d food to raise a 14-kilngram bird.

About 8 percent d turkeys raised in the United States are exported. Mexico is the top importer. American turkey production is valued at 3,000 million dollars a year.

听力原文:As a personal fitness trainer, I have to tell you that one of the worst things yo
u can do when you're working out at the gym is drink soda. Aside from making you feel bloated, the sugars in the soda keep your body from absorbing water, which can make your muscles cramp up. I mean, I don't even recommend those so-called juice "drinks" that contain a bunch of added sweeteners. Stick to the natural stuff: one hundred percent juice is great—it contains fructose, which helps you rebuild your muscles, and vitamins and... like that. If you want, you can make your own sports drink by diluting some juice and adding a little salt— I add about a teaspoon for every quart of diluted juice. This helps keep you hydrated, and helps you replenish the salts you sweat out.

What does the speaker say to avoid before exercise?

A.Drinking soda

B.Eating sweet foods

C.Eating a large meal

D.Overstretching muscles

听力原文:People born in the autumn live longer than those born in the spring and are less

听力原文: People born in the autumn live longer than those born in the spring and are less likely to fall chronically ill when they are older, according to an Austrian scientist.

Using census data for more than one million people in Austria, Denmark and Australia, scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in the northern German town of Rostock found the month of birth was related to life expectancy over the age of 50. Seasonal differences in what mothers ate during pregnancy, and infections occurring at different times of the year could both have an impact on the health of a new-born baby and could influence its life expectancy in older age.

"A mother giving birth in spring spends the last phase of her pregnancy in winter, when she will eat less vitamins than in summer, ' said Gabriele Doblhammer, one of a team of scientists who carried out the research. "When she stops breast-feeding and starts giving her baby normal food, it's in the hot weeks of summer when babies are prone to infections of the digestive system. '

In Austria, adults born in autumn (October-December) lived about seven months longer than those born in spring (April-June), and in Denmark adults with birthdays in autumn outlived those born in spring by about four months. In the southern hemisphere, the picture was similar. Adults born in the Australian autumn—the European spring—lived about four months longer than those born in the Australian spring. The study focused on people born at the beginning of the 20th century, using death certificates and census data. Although nutrition at all times of the year has improved since then, the seasonal pattern persists, Doblhammer said.

(33)

A.Those who were born in spring.

B.Those who were born in summer.

C.Those who were born in autumn.

D.Those who were born in winter.

听力原文: Stress is a very normal part of life. Most people feel stress at some time in their lives. It doesn't come from an event itself, that is, from the things that are happening in our lives. It comes from the meaning we give to what has happened. We can experience stress any time we feel we don't have control. It can come from a feeling that we can do anything about a situation.

Stress is not just caused by our mental or emotional condition. It is also influenced by how tired we are, whether we have a balanced diet with enough vitamins and minerals, whether we get enough physical exercise and whether we can relax. If we feel stressed, there are several things that we can do. First, we need to learn how to relax and breathe slowly and smoothly.

We can also take some time out of our worried, busy schedule to notice the small things in life. Smell the air, look at the flowers, notice the small designs in the leaves on a tree -- these activities can do much to quiet us and to give ourselves a small break in a busy schedule.

We need to take care of our bodies. Being tired makes it easier for us to get sick and to develop physical problems related to stress. We need to get enough rest, eat well, and do some regular exercise.

Finally, we need to find what is causing the stress in our lives. Once we have found it, we need to begin to change that part of our lives. If we believe that we can control stress, we can begin to control our lives.

(34)

A.An unexpected event.

B.The understanding to an event.

C.The things that happen in our lives.

D.The influence of others.
