?Read the article below about sales.

?Choose the correct word to fill each gap from A, B, C or D.

?For each question (21-30), mark one letter (A, B, C or D) on your Answer Sheet.

Some people believe that you have to be a special kind of person to sell a product. Although it is clear that a successful sales rep does need special talents and an outgoing personality, many of the skills he uses are used by most of us. we build and (21) . relationships with different kinds of people, we listen to and take note of what they tell us and don't just enjoy the sound of our own voices and we explain things to them and share ideas with them.

A company may depend on its own sales team or on the salesmanship of its distributors, wholesalers or retailers. (22) any company needs to establish a personal relationship with its major clients (key accounts) and potential customers (prospects). It is often said that "people do business with people": a company doesn't just deal impersonally (23) another company, but a person in the buying department receives personal visits from people representing the company's suppliers on a regular basis—or in the case of department stores (24) chain stores, a team of buyers may travel around visiting suppliers.

Keeping sales people "on the road" is much more expensive (25) employing them to work in the office and much of their time is spent unproductively traveling. Telephone selling may use the time more productively (though in some countries this is illegal), but a face-to-face meeting and discussion is much more effective. Companies involved in the export trade often have a separate export sales department, (26) travel and accommodation expenses may be very high. Servicing overseas customers may consequently often be done (27) phone, telex or letter. And personal visits may be infrequent. Many companies appoint an overseas agent or distributor whose own sales force takes (28) responsibility for selling their products in another country.

A sales department consists of many people who are based (29) different parts of the country or the world, who don't have the day-to-day contact and opportunities for communicating with each other that office-based staff have. (30) this reason, companies hold regular sales conferences where their entire sales force can meet, receive information and ask questions about new products and receive training.

第二节 短文理解1

阅读下面短文,从[A](Right)、[B](Wrong)、[C](Doesn't Say)三个判断中选择一个正确选项。

No goods(商品)or services are given free. As we know, we get many things by payment of money, and people receive money for so many goods and services. Anyone taking the money from us can in turn spend it for his own good. For example, the milkman sells the milk for money, and then he uses the money, possibly, to pay for what is used in his own car.

Sometimes the payment is in another form. Often among friends, or in the family, one person will give goods, or services which cost effort (努力) and skill (技巧), in exchange for payment. This might bring a feeling of happiness, such as when one gives a present. Also, it might show that you have paid the person back, such as when you help with washing up the dishes after someone cooks you a meal. It means that in the future the person who gives goods or services will himself be given something else.

No matter how they are paid for--in money, time, or effort--goods and services can only be got by some cost.

All goods and services are paid for in money or in other forms.

A.Right

B.Wrong

C.Doesn't say

The famous Dr. Edward Jenner was busy trying to solve the problem of smallpox. After study
ing case after case, he still found no possible cure. He had reached an impasse in his thinking. At this point, he changed his tactics. Instead of focusing on people who had smallpox, he switched his attention to people who did not have smallpox. It turned out that dairymaids(挤奶女工)apparently never got the disease. From the discovery that harmless cowpox gave protection against deadly smallpox came vaccination(牛痘) and the end of smallpox as a scourge(灾祸) in the Western world.

We often reach an impasse in our thinking. We are looking at a problem and trying to solve it and it seems there is a deadened, and "aporia" (the technical term in logic meaning "no opening"). It is on these occasions that we become tense, we feel pressured, overwhelmed, in a state of stress. We struggle vainly, fighting to solve the problem. Dr. Jenner, however, did something about this situation. He stopped fighting the problem and simply changed his point of view--from patients to dairymaids, picture the process going something tike this: Suppose the brain is a computer. This computer has absorbed into its memory bank all your history, your experiences, your training, your information received, through life, and it is programmed according to all this data. To change your point of view, you must reprogram your computer, thus freeing yourself to take in new ideas and develop new ways of looking at things. Dr. Jenner, in effect, by reprogramming his computer, erased the old way of looking at his smallpox problem and was free to receive new alternatives.

What does "impasse" probably mean?

A.deadened

B.depression

C.solution

D.peak
