根据以下材料,回答题。

His Own Way to Express Love

Yesterday was our three-year anniversary. We didn"t do anything romantic; we just walked hand in hand and talked about our past and the future. This was pretty much what I had expected.

Andy is an unromantic guy : no sweet words or roses. Smart as he is, he is a little bit shy expressing his love. In contrast, I am an outspoken(直言不讳) girl who likes to show her feelings directly. So needless to say, I often feel that he is insensitive. I envy other girls who are surrounded by sweet words.

I was in this sullen mood until I heard a beautiful sentence one day: "If one does not love you in the way you like, it does not mean that he does not love you. " This simple but sensible sentence made me think about our happy days and recall his deep concern for me.

One,cold winter night, I got a high fever. He hurried to my dormitory and took me to the hospital. He was in such a hurry that he even forgot to wear socks. After arrival, he ran through the hospital handling all the formalities(手续 ). When I was put on a drip (点滴), he told me interesting stories to make me happy. Being held in his warm arms and listening to his tender(温柔的) voice, I had never felt so safe and comfortable. Gradually, I fell asleep. When I woke up 15 minutes later, he was still mumbling(咕哝地说) to me. He explained that if he had stopped talking I would have woken up. At that moment, I found love in his eyes.

Another time, I had a bad quarrel with my best friend. Although I knew it was my fault, I refused to admit it. I was angry when he insisted I apologize to her. He said that it was difficult to admit a mistake, but this was what everyone shduld do. The next morning, I apologized to my friend and asked for her forgiveness.

My unromantic boyfriend cares about my health like my father, understands me like my mother"and helps me like my elder brother.

根据以下材料,回答题。

American Wedding

“I d0.”To Americans.those two words carry great meanin9.They can even change yourlife, especially if you say them at your own weddin9.Making wedding VOWS is like signing a con-tract.Now Americans don’t really think marriage is a business deal. But marriage is a serious business.

It all begins with engagement.Traditionally.a young man asks the father of his sweetheartfor permission to marry her.If the father agrees.the man later proposes to her.Often he tries to surprise her by“popping the question”in a romantic way.Sometimes the couple just decides together that the time is right to get married. The man usually gives his franc6e(未婚妻)a diamond ring as a symbol of their engagement. They may be engaged for weeks, months or even years. As the big day approaches, their friends will provide many useful gifts.Today many coupies also receive advice during engagement. This prepares them for the challenges of married life.

At last it is time for the weddin9.Although most.,weddings follow traditions, there’S still roomfor individualism(个人主义).For example, the usual place for a wedding is a church. But somepeople get married outdoors in a scenic spot.A few even have the ceremony while sky-diving or tiding on horseback! The couple may invite hundreds of people or just a few close friends. They choose their own style. of colors, decorations and music during the ceremony. But some things rarely change. The bride usually wears a beautiful, long white wedding dress. She traditionally wears“something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.’’The groom wears a formal suit.

As the ceremony begins, the groom and his attendants stands with the minister, facing the audience.Music signals the entrance of the bride’S attendants followed by the beautiful bride. Nervously, the young couple repeats their VOWS.Traditionally, they promise to love each other“for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer,in sickness and in health.”But sometimes the cou-ple composes their own VOWS.They give each other a gold ring to symbolize their marriage com-mitment.Finally the minister announces the big moment:“I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss your bride!”

At the wedding reception.the bride and groom greet their guests. Then they cut the wedding cake and feed each other a bite.Later the bride throws her bouquet of flowers(花束)to a group of single girls.Tradition says that the one who catches the flower will be the next to marry. After the reception, many couples take a honeymoon,a one-to-two-week vacation trip,to celebrate their new marriage.

American consider marriage as a business deal. 查看材料

根据以下材料,回答题

Selmer

At 21, Ricardo Semler became boss of his father"s business in Brazil, Semco, which sold parts for ships. Semler Junior worked like a madman, from 7:30 am, until midnight every day. One afternoon, while touring a factory in New York, he collapsed. The doctor who treated him said,"There"s nothing wrong with you. But if you continue like this, you"ll find a new home in our hospital." Semler got the message. He changed the way he worked. In fact, he changed the ways his employees worked too.

He let his workers take more responsibility so that they would be the ones worrying when things went wrong. He allowed them to set their own salaries, and he cut all the jobs he thought were unnecessary, like receptionists and secretaries. 46_______ "Everyone at Semco, even top managers, meets guests in reception, does the photocopying, sends faxes, types letters and dials the phone."

He completely reorganized the office: instead of walls, they have plants at Semco, so bosses can"t shut themselves away from everyone else. 47_______ As for uniforms, some people wear suits and others wear T-shirts.

Semler says, "We have a sales manager named Rubin Agater who sits there reading the newspaper hour after hour. He doesn"t even pretend to be busy. But when a Semco pump on the other side of the world fails millions of gallons of oil are about to spill into the sea. Rubin springs into action. 48_______ That"s when he earns his salary. No one cares if he doesn"t look busy the rest of the time."

Semco has flexible working hours: the employees decide when they need to arrive at work.

49_______ It sounds perfect, but does it work? The answer is in the numbers: in the last six years, Semco"s revenues have gone from $35 million to $212 million. The company has grown from eight hundred employees to 3,000. Why? Semler says it"s because of "peer pressure". Peer pressure makes employees work hard for everyone else. 50_______ In other words, Ricardo Semler treats his workers like adults and expects them to act like adults. And they do.

回答(46)题 查看材料

A.This saved money and brought more equality to the company.

B.He knows everything there is to know about our pumps and. how to fix them.

C.And the workers are free to decorate their workspace as they want.

D.Most managers spend their time making it difficult for workers to work.

E.If someone isn"t doing his job well, the other workers will not allow the situation to continue.

F.Also, Semco lets its workers use the company"s machines for their own projects, and makes them take holidays for at least thirty days a year.

根据以下材料,回答题

How to Argue with Your Boss

(1) Before you argue with your boss, check with the boss"s secretary to determine his mood. if he ate nails for breakfast, it is not a good idea to ask him for something, even without the boss"s secretary, they are keys to timing: don"t approach the boss when he"s on deadline; don"t go in right before lunch, when he is apt to be distracted and rushed; don"t go in just before or after he has taken a vacation.

(2) If you"re mad, that will only make your boss mad. Calm down first, and don"t let a particular concern open the floodgates for all your accumulated frustration. The boss will feel that you think negatively about the company and it is hopeless trying to change your mind. then, maybe he will dismiss you.

(3) Terrible disputes can result when neither the employer nor the employee knows what is the problem the other wants to discuss. Sometimes the fight will go away when the issues are made clear, the employee has to get his point across clearly in order to make the boss understand it.

(4) Your boss has enough on his mind without your adding more. If you can"t put forward an immediate solution, at least suggest how to approach the problem. People who frequently present problems without solutions to their bosses may soon find they can"t get past the secretary.

(5) To deal effectively with a boss, it"s important to consider his goals and pressures, if you can put yourself in the position of being a partner to the boss, then he will be naturally more inclined to work with you to achieve your goals.

A Pay Rise or Not?

"Unless I get a rise. I"ll have a talk with the boss, Henry Manley," George Strong said to himself. George liked his job and he liked the. town he lived in, but his wife kept telling him that his pay was not enough to meet the needs of the family. That was why he was thinking of taking a job in Birmingham, a nearby city about 50 miles away. He had been offered a job in a factory there, and the pay was far better.

George lived in Wyeford, a medium-sized town. He really liked the place and didn"t like the idea of moving somewhere else, but if he took the job in Birmingham, he would have to move his family there.

Henry Manley was the manager of a small company manufacturing electric motors. The company was in deep trouble because, among other reasons, the Japanese were selling such things at very low prices. As a result, Manley had to cut his own prices and profits as well. Otherwise he would not get any orders at all. Even then, orders were still not coming in fast enough, so that there was no money for raises(加工资) for his workers. Somehow ,he had to struggle along and keep his best workers as well. He sighed. Just then the phone rang.

His secretary told him that George Strong wanted to see him as soon as possible. Manley sighed again. He could guess what it was about. George Strong was a very young engineer. The company had no future unless it could attract and keep men like him. Manley rubbed his forehead his problems seemed endless.

Henry Manley was already deeply in debt. 查看材料

根据下面材料,回答题。

Advertising

The appeal of advertising to buying motives can have both negative and positive effects.

Consumers may be convinced to buy a product of poor quality or high price because of an advertisement. For example, some advertisers have appealed to people&39;s desire for better fuel economy for their cars by advertising automotive products that improve gasoline mileage. Some of the products work. Others areworthless and a waste of consumers&39; money.

Sometimes advertising is intentionally misleading. A few years ago a brand of bread was offered to dieters (节食者) with the message that there were fewer calories (热量单位,大卡) in every slice. It turned out that the bread was not dietetic (适合节食的), but just regular bread.

There were fewer calories because it was sliced very thin, but there were the same number of calories in every loaf.

On the positive side, emotional appeals may respond to a consumer&39;s real concerns.

Consider fire insurance. Fire insurance may be sold by appealing to fear of loss. But fear of loss is the real reason for fire insurance. The security of knowing that property is protected by insurance makes the purchase of fire insurance a worthwhile investment for most people. If consumers consider the quality of the insurance plans as well as the message in the ads, they will benefit from the advertising.

Each consumer must evaluate her or his own situation. Are the benefits of the product important enough to justify buying it? Advertising is intended to appeal to consumers, but it does not force them to buy the product. Consumers still control the final buying decision.

Advertising can persuade the consumer to buy worthless products by__________. 查看材料

A.stressing their high quality

B.convincing him of their low price

C.maintaining a balance between quality and price

D.appealing to his buying motives
