Subject: Customer Complaint
To Whom It May Concern,
I have trusted the Shoe People to protect the feet of my employees for over ten years now. I recently purchased a few pairs of boots from your company for my crew. Though my men were initially satisfied with the boots, the soles began to fall apart on them after just twelve weeks. This was extremely surprising considering they came with a six year warranty. The boots are unsafe to wear because my men are pouring hot concrete. Please respond as soon as possible with instructions on how I can return the boots and receive a refund.
Thank you.

Dear Mr. Trimbald,
Thank you for your e-mail concerning the poor quality of our rubber soled black workboots. A representative will be by your office next week to pick up the damaged boots. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and your crew. Along with five new pairs of workboots for your crew (we included one extra pair), we have enclosed a free year's supply of sole protector spray. In our retail stores, this spray is always recommended to buyers who work on heated floors. This should have been brought to your attention at the time of your initial order (received by telephone on October 12, 2007). Please excuse our oversight. To date we have had no complaints about these workboots from customers who have used the protector spray. However, should you use the spray and find that you are still unsatisfied with the boots, please return the boots and spray for a full refund. Thank you for supporting The Shoe People. Have a Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Stan Mason, President

M: What do you mean by that?
W: I mean your canoe should be secure enough so that the moment you get in it, it doesn't float away on you.
M: But you wouldn't want it to be too grounded, would you? Otherwise, it's a lot of work to push it from the shore.
W: Right, so try to have it parked securely enough that a simple shove from your paddle is all it takes to get you offshore.
M: What if the currents keep pushing you back to shore, after you've pushed off?
W: In that case, you may wish to "go with the flow" and let it glide you along the edges until you come across an area where you can push towards the center.
M: OK, got it. So, can we get in and get going? I am dying to try out an Eskimo roll.
W: All right, but there are still some other tips I have to remind you of. For example, do you remember what you should never do when you're pushing off?
M: Yeah, I remember. Never lean forward. Always lean away from the shore. Let's just get out there so I can practice my Eskimo roll.
W: Come on Stan, as they say--walk before you run.
M: See you on the other side of the shore.
W: OK. Good luck!
M: Thank you again!
(1)
A.To make sure you are standing firmly enough at the shore.
B.To make sure you are properly equipped.
C.To make sure you are properly grounded at the shore.
D.To make sure you are properly grounded off the shore.

M: This is Stan Fielding reporting live from the suburbs of the capital city. Just 20 minutes ago, rebel forces launched the biggest offensive against the ruling government in the 18-month conflict here in this country.
W: Now Stan, is this a sign that the peace process has been totally abandoned?
M: Well, so far, peace negotiations have failed, and any resolution to end the civil war appears bleak at this moment. As you can see...Whoa.
W: Stan, Stan, are you there?
M: Uh, yes, Shelly. As you can probably hear behind me, rebel forces are also using heavy artillery to pound the positions of government forces around the city center. Rebel forces are closing in, and it's feared that they will be able to take the capital building before daybreak where, it is believed, many government officials are holding out.
W: Now, besides the heavy fighting, what other pressing concerns are there for the citizens of the city?
M: Well, since the beginning of the conflict, starvation, and lack of clean water and adequate shelter have been the biggest daily obstacles facing the citizens of this war-torn country. It is believed that over 40, 000 people, mostly children, have starved to death. Fortunately, no epidemics have broken out, but that is always a concern if this war lingers on,
W: Okay, that was Stan Fielding reporting. And we will keep you up-to-date as this story continues to unfold.
